PRUITT Public Health Dept. This is the second in a series of articles in which we are striving, to help the community gain a bet ter understanding of the Health Department. Last week we men tioned disease prevention and con trol. This week we will attemp to tell you about Maternal and Child Health services. How does this service affect you and the community? First the in dividual. In Maternal health we are concerned with a great deal of individual education. Teaching the expectant mother how to care for herself in order to produce a healthy child. And to be well and strong enough to care for herself and her child when it is bom. There are so many things we are trying to aid you in. Your diet, personal hygiene, proper exercise, things that you should consult your physician about.' The proper time in your pregnancy to begin visits to your doctor to insure a healthy mother and child. Why an early blood test may assure you that your child will be well. There are a number of things a blood test will reveal. More well and healthy babies and mothers will raise our standard of living in the community. We are going to hear more and more of MCH Clinics. We hope at some future date to have one in For syth County. The larger and better organized counties now have MCH Clinics. They provide medical care for indigent families who feel they must wait until time of delivery to consult their doctor. We cannot stress enough the fact that your health department offers much of the information mentioned aove before these clinics are organized. We would also like to point out that you as individuals as well as community groups can be instrumental in the organizat i ion of a Maternal & Child Health I Clinic in our county. We invite you to come in and talk with us at ' your convenience. Your Public Health Nurse, GRACE E. Try restricting yourself to skimmilk or buttermilk for pro -5 tein and calcium needs. To The People Of Forsyth County I hereby announce as a Candi date for the Office of Sheriff of Forsyth County, subject to the primary to be held on March 21, 1956. Before making this important decision, I carefully considered the responsibilities that will be placed on me if elected to this important office. I am deeply concerned with the number of deaths that we are having on our highways in For syth County each year. The larg est percent of these are caused by. reckless driving—driving under the Influence of alcohol, speeding and “clowning”. I firmly believe that if our highways and roads in this county were patrolled more than they are that this high rate of deaths would be greatly reduced. I PROMISE TO THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF THIS COUN TY THAT IF ELECTED TO THE OFFICE OF SHERIFF THAT X WILL PATROL OUR ROADH MORE, AND THAT I WILL TREAT YOUR BOYS AND GIRL# AS I WOULD TREAT MY OWN. AND THAT" IF I RECEIVE A CALL FROM ANY ONE IN* IK COUNTY THAT I WILL ATTEND TO THAT CALL I have been aek ed by people from all over the County if I would come when they called for me; I REPEAT THAT I WILL COME WHEN CALLED and will dlschargge the duties of this office.
