Georgia Farmers Cautioned Against
Planting Untested Cottonseed
The results of a law number
of germination tests made on cot
tonseed in the State Seed Lab
ortary indicate thnt a great deal
of the cottonseed produced in
Georgia during 1055 is unfit for
planting purposes.
Many of the seed samples test
ed varied from as low as 10
percent germination to no higher
than 65 percent. Seed which ger
minate less than 70 percent
should be sold to oil mills and
good seed purchased to use for
planting purposes.
Farmers who plan to use their
own seed for planting this year
are cautioned to have these seed
tested in the State Seed Labora
tory or a commercial seed lab
oratory in order to prevent poor
stands and re planting of crops.

pound of seed to the laboratory
which is locnted in the new Agri
culture building, 19 Hunter St.,
S.W., Atlanta 3, Georgia.
In taking a cotton seed sample
from bags, farmers should take a
handful of seed from each bag
and mix the seed together well in
a box. A pound of this mixed seed
should then be sent to the lab
oratory. In sampling bulk seed,
farmers should take a handful of
seed from seven uniformly dis
tributed parts of the lot, mix them
together well and send a pound
to the state seed laboratory.
All seed samples sent to a lab
oratory for testing should include
the name of the variety of seed
and the name and full address of
th® sender.
