Bulldogs Lose Second
Game of Season '
The F. C H. S. "Bulldogs” lost
a hard fought game last Friday
night, September 14, to the Buford
“Wolves”.
After two full quarters of defen
sive struggle the “Bulldogs” left
the field for the half-time rest trail
ing 13 to 0.
Beginning the Third quarter the
F. C. H. S. team came back strong.
Buford kicked off and the “Bull
dogs” took the ball and made three
straight first downs before an off
side penalty killed the drive
Buford, on the offensive scored
on a long run, and then kicked to
F. C. H. S. again. A fumble on the
kick-off gave Buford the ball on
the “Bulldog” 15 yard line, from
where they scored after making a
first down on the 4 yard line.
The Forsyth County boys still
determined to get in on the scor
ing put on two straight sustained
drives, scoring each time with
Charles Welch going over for the
first score and Robert Ingram for
the second.
Buford scored once more on a
long pass making the final score
33 to 12.
It was nice seeing so many of
our Forsyth County people includ
ing high school and elementary
school students in Buford support
ing our boys
Let’s all get behind our football
team and boost them into the vic
tory column. Let’s follow them to
Acworth Friday night and cheer
them to a win over the Acworth
Indians.

Recently an article was printed
urging a county wide fly control
campaign. There is no way possible
to measure the vast number of dis
ease germs that are blocked away
from any contact \yith food or ob
jects we handle when a fly control
program is fully carried out.
After seeing the good results
from a few minutes of time and
effort each day on fly control and
while we are still conscious of the
fact that we can and are prevent
ing the spread of disease germs,
lets make an all our drive on the
roach bugs that are commonly
found at most all homes, retaur
ants and grocery stores. It is im
portant that th? roach bugs be
controlled for they leave their
body waste in the form of oily li
quids secreted by the scent glands
and pellets of excrete on food mat
erials and like the fly, on pbjects
we handle. Roachy odors may ruin
food It may be imparted to dishes
stored in cabinets or pantries in
fested by roaches. A good roach
control program is needed in every
home, restaurant and grocery store.
Some suggested control measures
are:
1. Prevent openings for roaches
to enter home. Plastic wood or
putty is valuable in closing up the
cracks around water pipes entering
house and around moulding and
baseboards.
2. Keep all storage places orderly
3. Examine baskets and boxes in
which food is brought into the
home.
4. Clean up and store all food
material that needs to be in tight
ly covered cans and shelves off
the floors.
Some chemical control methods
are:
Chlordane—Most effective insecti
cide nJw available for roach con
trol Spray with 2-3 percent con
centration where roaches are found
and follow up .with 5-6 percent
powder from which is deadly upon
their contact with it. for several
weeks later.
Lindane: This is another very good
chemical control. Use 1 percent
spray. The “quick kkill” spray
found at most grocery stores is al
so one of the best contact sprays
but still should be followed up by
a power poison. A brush on liquid
poison is the safest for use inside
dish and food cabinets. Remember
keep poison away from children.

The State ASC Committee has
determined that premeasurement
service shall be offered in connect
ion with the 1957 wheat acreage
reserve program. Forsyth County
farmers who put their wheat al
lotment, or a part of it in the
wheat acreage reserve for 1957,
will be offered this service. By hav
ing the area premeasured you
could be sure it was large enough
to take care of your agreement
Also, if you put a part of the
wheat allotment in the 1957 whea
acreage reserve, and sow the other
part of your allotment then you
would be sure that you had enough
for the acreage reserve and not
too much sowed.
The opening date for this service
is October 1, 1956 and the closing
date is October 31, 1956.
The State Committee has approv
ed the following rates to be charg

GUY CASTLEBERRY
Infant Poisoned Make*
Miraculous Recovery
Little Steven Craig Johnson, two
and one half year old son of Mrs.
Laura G. Johnson, grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Homer Gibson, Route 1,
Suwanee was poisoned late Thurs
day afternoon by swallowing an
undertimed number of Walco
tablets, mistaking the tablets for
candy. As soon as it was discovered
end before any ill effects were not
iced the child wa§ rushed by its
mother to the office of Dr. Laura
Lipscomb who immediately washed
out the child’s stomach and was
given all other medical treatment
that was possible and for some
three or four hours the child re
sponded wonderfully and it was
thought he would have a quick re
covery with no ill effects.
About midnight or shortly after
the child became worse and was
soon in a critical condition, but by
heroic effort and use of all known
medical knowledge and skillful ap
pliance, Dr. Lipscomb soon thought
she was making some progress
against what seemed like all odds.
Then while using Oxygen through
out the fight against life and
death It was found that her sup
ply of Oxygen was about out, and
about this time Mr. Jimmie Barnes
and Mr. Ralph Otwell of the Otwell
& Barnes Funeral Home happened
to be passing on returning from
another emergency Ambulance call
and seeing the unusual activity
around the office of Dr. Lipscomb,
they stopped and offered their as
sistance and since their Ambulance
was Oxygen equipped the change
over was speedily made and the
Oxygen problem was solved and
due to the most critical changes
for the worse Mr. Barnes who has
had special training in the use of
Oxygen and Artificial respiration
stood by and gave the Oxygen
which enabled Dr. Lipscomb to ad
minister other treatment. Due to
the babies continued sinking con
dition It was decided the baby
would have to have fresh blood
plasma, and Mr. Ralph Otwell
made an emergency trip to At
lanta to secure this much needed
blood from the Red Cross Bank.
He made a record trip for the
blood at this critical time While
waiting for blood the baby sank
into a complete coma and its res
piration was all but gone, but after
frantic work on the part of Dr.
and artificial respiration
and Oxygen by Mr. Barnes for
some five hours there were some
signs of progress.
At this time already calls had
been put in to the Duluth Hospital
for help and Dr. Mason of the
Duluth Hospital joined the fight
for survival and around 9:30 A. M.
Friday morning the baby was
transferred to the Duluth Hospital
still under the use of Oxygen and
standby aid for artificial respirat
ion by Mr. Barnes. After remain
ing in the hospital and under con
tinued treatment the boy showed
continued progress and was soon
growing stronger and on the road
to recovery and Sunday afternoon
was dismissed and is up now play
ing and taking light diet
It is the purpose that this article
is written to publicly thank Dr.
Lipscomb and Rev. John Ozley
who spent the early morning hours
trying to console the parents and
grandparents spiritually and also
at the request of the family Bap
tized the infant during the height
of its critical condition. Also they
wanted to publicly thank Mr. Jim
mie Barnes and Mr. Ralph Otwell
for their heroic services and to
warn all parents of small children
the necesity of keeping all poisons
of all kinds completely out of the
reach of children.
Annual Singing
The Annual M. D. Harris Mem
orial Singing will be held at the
Mt. Tabor Baptist Church next
Sunday, September 22. The singing
