HEALTH DEPARTMENT NEWS
An ever ncreasing population in
Georgia brought on by new indus
tries locating within the State and
a bumper crop of babies each year
presents public health workers
with a greater challenge to main
tain higher health standards.
Increased population calls for
increased personnel. Additional per
sonnel working with larger groups
of people in the control of known
communicable diseases, are discov
ering new phases of health prob
lems which are demanding more
attention.
Accidents on the highways and
in the home are creating demands
for services to those who have had
amputations, disfigurations, and
crippling breaks.
Mental and nervous disorders
are resulting from living under the
strain of modern pressure.
The potential of death and dis
ease resulting from the "fall-out"
of radioactively from nuclear test
ing programs is increasing.
These problems are beginning to
press themselves upon the scene
and the old thrsats of heart dis
ease, tuberculosis and cancer seem
to defy complete control.
However, on the brighter side of
the picture, it is encouraging to
report that gains are still being
made daily in improving the health
of the people in Georgia. Tht mor
tality rates are continuing to fall,
except for those of degenerative
diseases. Communicable diseases
are at an all time low. Maternal,
infant and school health are con
stantly improving.
But these advances bring more
people to the age of degenerative
diseass, which with th increasing
population, places constant pres
sure upon public health workers
to maintain progress.
To further acquaint yourselves
with the activities of the Public
Health Department and with the
use of your tax dollars spent in
the health programs, we invite you
to stop by the Health Department
and look ovtr the recent issue of
Georgia’s Health.

AN OPEN LETTER
An open letter to the person who
removed the flower off Pledger
Buice’s Grave.
Friend, we were hurt very deep
ly when we found that you had
removed the Azalea off our Fathers
grave. It was placed on his grave
by his granddaughter on Easter
morning, a day which reminds us
that Jesus died and then rose from
the Tomb, in order that you and I
might have a life beyond the grave.
Could he have spoken to you when
you pick it, we feel sure he would
have asked you to please leave it,
not for the value of it in money,
but because my grandbaby put it
here. Fe feel sure that Jesus meant
flowers too when he said “Thou
Shalt Not Steal”. So my friend
when you stand naked and alone
before that great white throne and
tell God why you removed the flow
er it is going to be a great price
to pay for it. May it continue to
live and bloom and remind you to
be thinking up an excuse to tell
him.
The Pledger Buice Family.
