Several Cumming men left Sat
urday for two-day Deer hunt at
the Piedmont Reservation near
Monticello, Georgia. Some of the
ones going were: Messrs Walter
Rucker, J C. Redd, Billy Stone,
Leonard Barnett, Dean Ledbetter,
Cecil Merritt, Joel Webb and Cecil
Patterson of South Carolina. They
reported one deef killed on Monday
Mr. and Mrs Chelsie Green had
as their dinner guest last Wednes
day, Mr. and Mrs. Gladston Green.

Tea House of Dunaway Gardens.
Dr. and Mrs. McDonald also enter

Jeffery Ardoth, born Nov., 11 at
Jones Clancey Hospital in Duluth.
Mrs. Scully is the former Dorthy
Bagley Fowler, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Ardoth Bagley. Paternal
grandparents are Mr. and Mrs.
James E. Scully, Sr. of Rensselaer,
New York. Jeffery is the brother
of Aubrey and Dianne Fowler

School News
The Grey-Y Hi Club composed
o fthe eight graders, were in
charge of the Thanksgiving pro
gram devotional held on Wednes
day. This group is sponsored by
Miss Elizabeth Barron. The High
School Chorus presented a program
of music.
The F. H. A. girls had a covered
dish supper on Monday night, . ,ov
ember 23 at the high school cafe
torium.
The second fifty books have been
received from the American Science
Foundation. The school will receive
200 for the entire year. This is a
rotating plan by which the schools
keep them three months and rotate
them.
The next basketbball games will
be on November 24 when the For
syth County teams play Buford in
Buford. On November 25 they will
play East 'Hall there.

BTH GRADE GRAYY MEETING
The Bth Grade Gray-Y had their
regular meeting on Wednesday
November 18. The meeting was call
ed to order by our president, Suz
anne Grogan. We then had the roll
called, and the minutes of our last
meeting read by our secretary,
Marian Wheeler.
We had a report made bv our
treasurer Jane Wallace, and our
Community Project Chairman, San
dra Samples, on our last month
oroiect Which was ging Trick-or-
Treating and asking for money
for Care, instead of food. We re
ceived $11.31, which sent six boxes
of food to Haiti and 5 to Turkev.
We also had another report made
hy our School Project Chairman,
Patsy Grogan, on our last month’s
school project.
This month’s project is to make
cards and send them to the hospi
tal.
We then had our program by
our program chairman, Paula
Heard, Suzanne Grogan read Psalm
100, and Bernice Bottoms read a
story on The oro

OBSERVE WEEK OF PRAYER
The W. M. S. of the First Bap
tist Church, Cumming, Georgia
will observe the Weew of Prayer
for Foreign Missions November 30,
1959 through December 6, 1959.
The theme for the week will be
"O God, We Pray for All Mankind”.
The Gleanors Sunday School
Room will be open each day from
8:30 A. M. to 6 P. M. for prayer
services. Everyone is urged to
come by the church and pray for
all mankind, and especially for our
foreign missionaries.
The following programs will be
presented:
Tuesday night, December 1 at
8 O’clock P. M., Circle No. 1 and
Circle No. 2 will meet together.
Friday Afternoon, December 4
at 3:30 P. M. has also been set
aside as a prayer service at the
church.
Sunday night, December 6 at
7:30 o’clock P. M., The W. M. S.
and Auxiliaries will be in charge
of the program, which will take
the place of the regular. Sunday
evening service. The subject will bo
"O God, We Pray for Lost Man
kind”.
The Lottie Moon Christmas Of
fering will be taken. This offering
will be used to further the work of
our Foreign Missionaries. Our goal
is $350.00.

Miss Mary Jane Carroll o’f Cum
ming has been elected Sweetheart
of the Second Battle Group at
North Georgia College. This elec
tion took place before the North
Georgia College Sweetheart Ball on
November 14. Miss Carroll was
presented a bouquet of folwers in
a Lead-Out Ceremony at the Sweet
heart Bali.
Miss Carroll is active in the Glee
Club, Rec Club, and Home Econo
mics Club, and she is majoring in
Home Economics.
She is a Sophomore at North
Georgia College and is the daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Carroll
of Cumming.
BETA CLUB MEETING
The Beta Club of Forsyth Coun
ty High School held its third meet
ing of the school year October 11.
19|59. The secretary gave her re
port and informed us that the Beta
Club pins had been given to the
new members during the month of
October.
Among the business discussed
was our money making projects
for the year an dthe Beta Club
Convention that will be held in
March. ,
The meeting was then adjourned.

The Board of Education estimat
es that a tax rate of 5 mills will
take care of the buildings and work
necessary to be done for the
schools to stav on the accredited
list. This would mean that a tax
payer with a SSOO valuation would
pay $2.50 more tax, with a SI,OOO
valuation $5.00 more, with a SISOO
valuation $7.50 more, with a S2OOO
valuation SIO.OO more, and so on.
THANKSGIVING dinner at
FORSYTH COUNTY HI SCHOOL
Most Forsyth County High
School children will enjoy two
Thanksgiving Turkey dinners this
week—one at school and one at
home.
Turkey and dressing will high
light the menu Wednesday for the
annual Thanksgiving dinner in the
Forsyth County High School lunch
room.
Other items on the menu include
sweet potato souffle. English peas,
spiced peaches, gravy, home made
rolls and butter, milk and ice
cream.

The Southern Piedmont Conser
vation Experiment Station, a joint
enterprise of the Soil Conservation
Service and the Agricultural Re
search Service will be presented
at a gala dedication ceremony on
December 4 featuring Sen. Richard
Russell and Commissioner of Agri
culture Phil Campbell.
The first public presentation of
the station will include a tour of
the laboratory, controlled growing
rooms and acres and acres of farm
research plots, a babecue luncheon
and several speeches. This program
is being sponsored by the Oconee
River Soil Conservation District.

Conservation Work

operator signs may be purchased
through him or Howard M. Holland
District Supervisor anytime at a
cost of $4.50. These signs are
18” x 24” and include the name of
the District as well as that of the
cooperator. A number of these
signs have been purchased and
may be seen along the various
roads in the county on which a
cooperator is located.
Mr. Holbrook also announces that
additional excavation work is plan
ned on Settingdown Creek proper
if all landowners agree. This will
be for a distance of ten miles.
