Easter Sunrise Service held at the Pleasant Grove Baptist
Church was well attended. The Pastor, Rev. Tommy Hender
son brought the message and Mr. Gilbert Chung taught the
audience our Sunday School lesson.
The Lottie Moon Circle of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church
W.M.U. met at the home of Mrs. Jim Bennett Monday night
with fourteen members present.
Mr. and Mrs. Hawes Norman and sons of Atlanta spent sev
eral days here visiting Mrs. Norman’s parents, Mr. and Mrs,
J. W. Cheshire.
Mrs. Barbara Cain visited her mother, Mrs. Sutton, in Jack
son County Sunday.
Mr. Kyle Orr has returned to his home in Flowery Branch
after a visit here with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Wood.
Mr. Thomas Henley of Marietta is on a visit with his chil
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cox and Marcia.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hartley and baby of Atlanta spent the week
end with their parents , Mr. and Mrs. Alan Sommerfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bennett and daughter Lugene, and Ellen
Bennett and Frances Welch enjoyed a trip to the Little White
House at Warm Springs, and Calloway Gardens recently.
Mr. Charles Davis and Miss Linda Wolfe were married at
the Pleasant Grove Church March 29th. They are making
their home here in their new trailer.
Our community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Annie
Mae Kennemore, of Atlanta. She was raised in the home of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Ira Waldrip of our community.
Mr. Robert Adams is convalescing at his home after under
going surgery at the Hall County Hospital. His many friends
wish for him a speedy recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Chung of Athens spent the weekend
with Mrs. Chung’s parents , Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Wood.
Mrs. T. L. Brown entertained her Sunday School class with
an Easter Egg Hunt at her home Friday p.m.
Mrs. Janice Dacus and daughter Robin, of Buford, visited
her mother, Mrs. Addie Bennett over the weekend.
Mrs. Frances Keahey visited her father, Mr. J. D. Ferguson
in South Carolina for several days.
We wish Mrs. G. C. Davis a speedy recovery after spending
some time in the Forsyth County Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jones have purchased the home place of
Misses Rose and Ethel Crow where they plan to start building
a home in the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Crow, Mr. and Mrs. Buster Harris, Mr.
and Mrs. Grover Aiken, Mr. Clovis Owen, Mrs. Lynette Ben
nett and daughter Lugene visited Mr. and Mrs. Andy Nix in
Gainesville Saturday night.
Among those observing April birthdays are: Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Hemphill, Mrs. Wilma Wood, Mrs . Bertha Waldrip,Mrs.
Leona Waldrip, Mr. Clovis Owen, Mr. Darrell Bagwell, Mrs.
Olivia Harper, Mrs. Ruby Cheshire, Mrs. Tom Brown, and
Joel Wood.
Mrs. Arthur Bagwell entertained her Sunday School Class
with an Egg Hunt at her home Friday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Bagwell and family Miss Cozetta Town
ly, Bobby Townly, Mrs. Velvia Bagwell, Wendell and Shelia
were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bagwell Sunday.
Mr. Grover Carlile who has spent some time in Hall County
Hospital, returned home Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Touchstone , who are making their
home in Jean’s Cabins, had their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.L.
Touchstone, from Rome, Ga., visiting Sunday.
Rev. E. A. Majors of Alpharetta visited the L. O. Welche’s
and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harper Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bennett and daughter Patsy visited Mr.
and Mrs. Gordan Cain in Gainesville Sunday.
SP/4 William L. Cain is at present stationed in Saigon. His
wife Barbara is making her home with his parents here, Mr.
and Mrs. W. M. Cain.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brown are visiting relatives in Atlanta
this week.
Mrs. Mildred Rhodes is on a visit in Nashville Tennessee,
with her daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Anderson. You
T.V. fans can see Mr. Anderson’s show on Channel 11.
We welcome Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cheshire to our community.
Mr. Cheshire has retired and they have their permanent home
here.
Mr. and Mrs. Randall Pinson spent the Easter Holidays with
Mrs. Pinson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jones at Chestnut
Mountain. Randall is stationed in Augusta at Fort Gordon.
Speedy Entree Features Pears
Before the busy spring days arrive, start a file of quick and
easy recipe ideas to have on hand when time is short. Begin
now by trying this spring-toned entree that has built-in flavor
and convenience.
Juicy canned Bartlett pears, sweet potatoes and chicken cook
quickly in a savory orange sauce to make a delicious one-dish
meal.
Easy to prepare, the chicken is browned and then simmered
in pear syrup and orange juice. When almost tender, the pear
halves and sweet potatoes are added. For a colorful accent, gar
nish with watercress or mint. Add a crisp green salad and the
meal is complete.
Golden Pear ’N Chicken Fricassee
1 (1 lb.) can Bartlett pear Vi cup flour
halves *4 teaspoon garlic salt
1 (2 to 3 lb.) fryer chicken, Vi teaspoon powdered ginger
cut into pieces Vi teaspoon Tabasco
1 teaspoon salt 1 */2 cups orange juice
Vi cup butter 1 (18 oz.) can sweet potatoes
Drain pears, reserving syrup. Add water to pear syrup to make
I V2 cups. Sprinkle chicken with salt. Saute in butter in large
skillet, browning evenly. Remove chicken. Stir in flour and
seasonings. Gradually add orange juice and pear syrup, stirring
until smooth and thickened. Add chicken. Cover and simmer 30
minutes. Add pear halves and drained sweet potatoes. Cook 15
minutes longer or until chicken is tender and pears and potatoes
are heated through. Makes 4 to 6 servings.
