GOD
and
YOU
■
By Minor Martin
God has made life meaningful and full for me. And I know
that He has done the same for many others. So from our common
fellowship of blessings, let us praise His name together. “For
it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant;
and praise is comely.” (Psa. 147-1)
Next to prayer, praise is perhpas the most profitable of
all spiritual exercises. And yet, like prayer, it is greatly
neglected even among God's own people.
Why is this so? Is He not good enough and great enough to
be praised? The God of wonders and miracles; is He not worthy
of our praise? The One Who gave us Jesus; are we too faint
hearted or ashamed to honor and praise His name? Yes, we
ought to praise God in all the fulness of His glorious trinity.
According to custom, man praises man. Which is not good.
We may all need encouragement at times, and we certainly
stand in need of prayer. But praise rightfully belongs unto
God Who knows the hearts of all men.
So much is being said today about the “generation gap”
that one more mention of it seems almost unpardonable. But
from this over-worked phrase comes the thought that we may
indeed be remembered as the generation gap. For the Bible
says that “one generation shall praise thy works to another,
and shall declare thy mighty acts.” (Psa. 145:4)
So if we fail to praise God as we should, and in failing leave
behind little or no evidence of our stewardship, we shall
then truly become a generation gap to those who shall follow
after.
As a nation we are quick to praise our every advance in
the fields of science, and invention and space exploration.
And scarcely a day passes without someone through the news
media praising America as, “the mightiest military machine
in history;” "the greatest nation on earth,” etc. Even speed,
regardless of purpose or necessity, is considered an achievment
of great proportions. But speed without the right destination is
not worth the cost.
The truth is, what mattered most in the beginning still matters
most. So it is high time that we learn at last what wisdom has
been trying to teach us through the ages; that it is better to
get one mind out of the gutter than to have the praise of
multitudes; that it is better to lift one heart free from despair
than to walk in the halls of fame. And it is better to win one
soul to Christ than to own all earth’s silver and gold. "For
what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world,
and lose his own soul?” (St. Mark 8:36)
As a nation, we have had troubles before. But today we are
up to our necks - and beyond! And only that which will save us
as individuals will save our nation: Repentance toward God,
and faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the New
Testament doctrine of salvation. And there is no substitute.
Let us pray. O God of our fathers, awake us to our res
ponsibility as individuals and as a nation before our time is
wasted and gone. Grant us power to overcome, not the people
whom we consider as our enemies, but those things which
are truly our enemies; hatred, pride, jealousy and the love
of pleasures. Quicken us by Thy Spirit. In Jesus name we
pray. Amen.

Dozens of independent surveys show that customers
