Usher in Spring with a fluffy, piquant bread pudding.
“Pieplant,” as rhubarb is sometimes called because it is so
delicious in pies, is one of the first garden plants of the year.
It is, therefore, frequently associated with the robin and the
coming of Spring.
This year enjoy its fresh, invigorating springtime flavor in a
bread pudding. Tart, tender, juicy rhubarb stalks are sliced
and sweetly combined with cubes of enriched white bread to add
snappy flavor and a beautiful pink color. Stiffly beaten egg whites
folded into the mixture before baking give Rhubarb Fluff Pud
ding an appetizingly light, airy texture. To enjoy this dessert
at its best, serve it warm from the oven handsomely decorated
with a generous dollup of whipped topping or sweetened whip
ped cream.
Nutritionally speaking, Rhubarb Fluff Pudding is a good meal
time finale. Since it is made from enriched white bread, it sup
plies vital B-vitamins, thiamine, niacin and riboflavin, plus the
mineral, iron. All are nutrients needed for good daily health.

the program through talks and
other types of presentations
before all types of groups on
the proper use of drugs and
the dangers of misuse. They
have been using materials pre

these presentations.
President Nixon also told
the NARD representatives dur

lieves it is most appropriate
that the comer drugstore be
the place where young people
can go for information and de

proper use as well as preven

Tasty Treat Of Tuna And Cheese

The “open face” sandwich is always high in popularity for
entertaining afternoons or evenings, or for a light hut filling
lunch treat. Toasty Tuna Sandwich is one of the favorite “open
face” recipes among the many created by the famous Kraft
Kitchens. We think you’ll like the flavor created by the combi
nation of the several ingredients of this meatless recipe.
Toasty Tuna Sandwich
1 7-oz. can tuna, drained, 1 hard-cooked egg, chopped
flaked 1 tablespoon chopped onion
Vi lb. Velveeta Pasteurized Dash of pepper
Process Cheese Spread, Kraft Mayonnaise
cubed 6 white bread slices, toasted
Vi cup chopped celery Tomato slices
Combine tuna, Velveeta, celery, egg, onion, pepper and enough
mayonnaise to moisten; mix lightly. For each sandwich, cover
slice of toast with tuna mixture; top with tomato slice. Bake at
350°, 8 to 10 minutes.
Easy Supper With Convenience Foods
How do you serve pancakes? Pancakes can be the basis of
many convenience meals. Here they are teamed with a creamed
chicken dish using canned chicken and a condensed soup for an
easy sauce base. Or it might be one of many frozen products on
the market.
For a second stack of pancakes try a hot apple sauce. Heat
canned apple sauce with corn syrup, either dark or light, and
spice it with nutmeg and cinnamon. Spread the pancakes lightly
with soft margarine and top with the hot spicy apple sauce syrup.
Hot Apple Sauce
2 cups canned apple sauce V 4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup Karo light or dark Vi teaspoon cinnamon
corn syrup 2 tablespoons margarine
Mix together apple sauce, corn syrup, nutmeg, cinnamon and
margarine in saucepan. Bring to boil and continue boiling about
5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Serve hot on pancakes. French
toast, or waffles. Any leftover sauce may be served over plain
cake or gingerbread. Makes about 2 1 /a cups.
An adult class in small en
gine operation and maintenance
will be held April 13, 14, and
15 at the Vocational Agricul
ture building. The maintenance
of the carburetor, ignition
system and other important
areas will be dealt with. The
class will begin at 7:30 p.m.
each night.
HEALTH AND SCIENCE
Careful washing with the
antibacterial skin cleanser,
pHisoHex, was found to help
eliminate perspiration odor for
more than 24 hours in a study
conducted by Drs. Harvey J.
Hurley and Walter B. Shelley,
Department of Dermatology,
University of Pennsylvania.
(Shampooing with the same
liquid' has been reported to
control scalp odors, and to
help prevent dandruff.)
The use of a “night cream”
for teenagers is often advised
when the teenager has acne,
and the cream is one with an
antibacterial, peeling action
such as pHisoAc. The medi
cated cream is applied only to
the blemishes, and serves to
reduce, oiliness, open clogged
pores, and to cover up
blemishes.
Current “therapy” for the
common cold for all age groups
is relief of symptoms, preven
tion of complications, and
tender, loving care for the
victims.
