THE FORSYTH COUNTY NEWS THURSDAY DEC. 16, 1971
T AS I SEE JT (CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1)
It is a pleasure to envision our county . one of the South's
most promising areas futurewise. More p. perhaps,
as-The Southeast’s most progressive potential. Soon, quite soon
(I hope), Forsyth County should not have to strive, cajole, or
beg for any good thing. It certainly seems that a Kind Providence
has looked down upon us in favor to provide us with the natural
setting for eventful and gracious blessings. We should be
and, I believe we are, a grateful people.
When all the waiting is concluded and we view the accomplish
ments of man’s ingenuity and foresight, it will then dawn upon
us that a long unrequited dream has, at last, become a true and
lasting reality. At first, we may rub our byes in disbelief that
anything so gigantic and fantastic has happened to us. And, yet,
barring an act of God or total war, we shall see what we shall
see. The promise almost ataggers die finite mind of man
but, together, it is no secret what God and man can do.
With the incoming tide of humanity and potential economic
successes, Forsyth County is in the early stages of its maturity.
Let tradition, history and custom have its necessary niche in
supplying the ultimate for many, but don’t deny the hundreds
and hundreds of our people who live with hope and faith in the
future both here and beyond.
There are those who speculate and live in prospect for
the monetary gains in store for them. And, truly,
sound possibilities in this realm for the wise investo’r in
Forsyth County’s future. To others, perhaps, the more pleasing
aspect is derived through the knowledge that they shall have
new friends and neighbors, as well as some of the economic
blessings and minor luxuries heretofore denied them. Realizing
this, it is reasonable to anticipate that we shall have more
comfortable accomodations in our schools, expanded business
facilities, and more consistent promotion of cultural pursuits.
The economic structure of our county should be enhanced to
provide the wherewithal necessary for its successful operation.
Outside the immediate perimeter of Cumming and Forsyth
County, the story is being heard of our amazing potential
for growth and prosperity. No longer is it necessary for one
lQ travel to a foreign State or Country to enjoy the natural
advantages indigenous to our immediate climate. Here in Forsyth
County can be had ideal edens of pleasurable pursuits. We
abound with natural scenic beauty which we have become to
accept as common to the area. There are breath-taking scenic
wonders, numerous lakes, shady retreats, campsites and rippling
streams. Where else can you find so much for so little?
Living in the present and proud of our past, the greater
hope is in the faith we have for the future. Let us, the people
of Cumming and Forsyth County, support and encourage the
belief that we are, indeed, a “Land of promise”.

With a little yuletlde spirit
and that accumulation of jar
lids, rings, string, and other
trivia you’ve stashed away, you
and the kids can have a holiday
fest making imaginative Christ
mas decorations.
LID ORNAMENTS
For these attractive hanging
ornaments, you’ll need plastic
can lids, jar rings, yarn, lace,
braid and glue.
First secure yarn by gluing
one end in the center of a plas
tic lid. Wrap yarn around the lid
until completely covered. Fora
three dimensional effect, use
several colors. When covered,
cut the yarn and glue the end
in the center of the lid. Cover
the center with a yarn pom
pom and attach a tassel to the

bottom. Make the tassel by tying
several strands of yarn together
in the middle.
For an interesting effect,
string three covered lids of
varying sizes together by in
serting yarn through holes in the
top and bottom of each lid.
To make a “Saturn” type
ornament with concentric rings,
cover the outside rim of a jar
ring with gold braid. With an
ice pick, make two holes in the
top of the ring and insert the
pin of a bulb ornament. Let the
bulb dangle centered in the ring.
Use several rings if desired.
A snowflake ornament can be
made by covering the outer rim
of a jar ring with fancy white
lace. String three different
sizes of rings with yam so that
they hang one inside the other.
STRING ORNAMENTS
Using string, you can create
delicately beautiful ornaments.
Gather these materials:
Newspapers to protect working
surface; creamy white glue;
yard lenths of cord; water base
paint; clear plastic spray or
clear colorless nail polish, ob
jects of varying sizes and
shapes such as cardboard tubes,
dowels and plastic bottles.
Now, working on a surface
protected by several thicknes
ses of newspaper, dip cord into
1/4 cup glue. Let soak until
thoroughly moistened (aboutls
- minutes). Pull string through
fingers to remove the excess.
Select objects of varying sizes
and shapes and wrap sections
of cord tightly around each one.
Let the cord dry until stiff,
then carefully remove by ma
king a single cut severing each
wind. Glue the ends of each
piece together to make closed
loops and let dry completely.
Combine large and small sizes
to form designs such as snow
flakes. To hang, glue a small
round loop at the top of each
ornament. Ornaments may now
be painted using a water base
paint if color is desired.
To preserve ornaments,
spray with a clear plastic spray
or coat with clear colorless
nail polish. These may also be
rubbed with glue and sprinkled
with glitter.
