Jean Nidetch, founder of Weight Watchers peers out at over 1,000 enthusiastic Georgians who
attended a free open meeting at Symphony Hall in Atlanta Tuesday night.
Jean Nidetch, the founder of Weight Watchers came south to celebrate Weight Watchers fourth
anniversary in Georgia.
In honor of her arrival Governor Jimmy Carter proclaimed the month of December Weight
Watchers month in the state of Georgia. The proclamation stated that Weight Watchers has been
recognized twice by the United States Congress in the Congressional Record as the outstanding
leader in the control of obesity. The Governor called upon the people of the state of Georgia
to watch their weight and aid those who are seeking a slimmer healthier life.
The first lady of Weight Watchers was greeted by men, women and children from all oyer the'
state who have lost weight on the Weight Watchers program.
Over 1,000 people cheered Jean Nidetch at a free open meeting at Symphony Hall in Atlanta
Tuesday night. 42 people who have lost over 100 pounds each on the Weight Watchers program
were presented to Mrs. Nidetch on stage. Each one carried a large picture showing how they looked
before their weight loss. Cheers and applause greeted all 42 happy losers.
Jean Nidetch held the audience spell bound as she told the story of weight watchers and human
interest stories about members from all over the world.
Mrs. Nidetch has written extensively on weight control problems and authored two books:
JEAN NIDETCH: WEIGHT WATCHERS COOK BOOK,” which contains menu plans and recipes
that are in accordance with the weight watchers program, now in it 30th printing: and THE
STORY OF WEIGHT WATCHERS,” a biography, published in May, 1970.
