Ricky Green, an eighth grade student at Cumming Upper Elementary School, is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Green of Cumming. Being a wildlife enthusiast, he enjoys hunting and fishing
and has done extensive research on wildlife, living off the land, and other related topics.
From his research on the topic for a science report he concluded a paper on "How to live off
the Land". In addition to the paper Ricky did several detailed drawings of traps for animals.
Ricky's paper was selected by his teacher, Mrs. Brenda Johnson, for publication in the News.

Tannic acid can be obtained from oak chips or stumps.
3. Salt can be obtained, as a black pesMeu, by boiling hickory chips and limbs.
4. Elm bark can be used as soap, because it becomes soapy when rubbed with water.
5. In smoking fish use hard wood, such as hickory, because soft wood, such as pine, makes
black smoke and makes fish taste like tar.

COMMEMORATIVE STAMPS
AT POST OFFICE
Cumming has been selected
by the U. S. Postal Service to
make available to the public
the 1971 Commemorative Stamp
Folders, marking the first time
in history that such mini
albums have been distributed
nationwide through post offices,
Postmaster Ray Taylor said
today.
"The stamp folders make it
possible for young adults and
collectors to purchase a full
year’s issue of commemorative
stamps at one time,” Post
master Taylor stated.
Beginning with the start of
business Monday, the mini
albums, containing U.S. comm
emorative stamps issued in
1971, will go on sale at the main
post office.
"This folder is an easy way
for a youngster or anyone to
start a stamp collection," Post
master Taylor said. The fol
ders, 10" by 10" in size, will
contain a description of each
stamp together with the packet
of 24 attractive commemorative
stamps issued during the year
and stamp hinges which can be
used to affix the stamps to the
folder. The hinges are a gras
sine strip which collectors use
for mounting stamps with-out
harming the folder or the
stamps.
"It is contemplated,” the
Postmaster said, "that mini
albums will be made available
annually.” He urged residents
desiring these folders to obtain
them as soon as possible as
the supply is limited.
