‘Greetings’
Say It’s
Christmas
All the merriment, all the magic, all the glory of Christ
mas comes now to the people of this community, like a
wonderful package of gifts they can share and enjoy. The
wrappings on the package glow with brightest promise—
joyful music in the air, gleaming lights and gala decora
tions, fun and festivity, trees and greens and all the trim
mings for a Christmas just brimming over with the good
things and glad times that the season inspires.
Now that the long-awaited moment has arrived, what
does this community Christmas package hold? The tag
gives a clue. It reads, "Greetings, good will and good wishes
—Merry Christmas!”
In the community, in the home, in business and social
relations, the true spirit of Christmas begins and grows
from greetings.
The greetings may be —as evidenced by this special
Christmas Greetings Edition—an expression of good will
and gratitude from business people of the community,
who are sincere in their desire to impart special appre
ciation of their patrons’ confidence and.trust.
But whether it’s a cheery “Merry Christmas’’ to a new
acquaintance, a warm exchange of season’s best wishes
with an old friend or still deeper exchange of felicitations
with a loved one, the holiday greeting embodies the guid
ing spirit of “Peace on earth, good will toward men, ’’
Enchanting as they are, gifts, parties and other such
gaieties are but the outer wrappings of the holiday package
that means Christmas, with its message of fellowship, friend
ship and love.
HELP FOR THE ADOLESCENT’S NIGHTMARE
The realization that the skin is something more than just a
sack into which we are poured should turn our attention to
the importance of constant vigilance where this important and
largest organ of our body is concerned. Even where skin dis
orders are superficial, they may affect our general happiness
and well-being far out of proportion to their apparent medical
importance.
Take, for example, that
curse of adolescence, acne
vulgaris, the common pim
pled condition of many
young people, caused by
inflammation and blockage of
the small glands of the skin
that secrete a greasy sub
stance called sebum. Some
times appearing in great
profusion on the face, these
pimples are disfiguring, at
least while they last, and
cause acute embarrassment to
sensitive young people. Such
discomforts need not last,
since in most cases acne can
be curbed or at least greatly
relieved.
In addition to dietary re
strictions and systemic drug
therapy, a very important
part of the treatment may
consist simply of frequent
and thorough cleansing with
warm water and an antibac
terial cleansing agent to make
certain that the condition
does not become infected and
pustular. Certain bacteria nor
mally found on the skin may
be found deep in the hair fol
licles or the openings of the
oil glands and cause pus to
form. Among the germicidal
agents that are effective in
practically eliminating such
organisms on the skin is Beta-

It should be noted that, at
our present level of know
ledge, acne is still pretty un
predictable. If the simple
skin-cleansing methods sug
gested do not help alleviate
the adolescent’s acne prob
lem, the family physician
should be consulted.
