Phillips
To Attend
Meeting
DAWSONVILLE Ford Ph
illips, longtime basketball
coach in Dawson and Forsyth
Counties, will be one of eight
Georgia delegates to the Nat
ional Federation of State High
School Associations meeting in
Miami, Fla. on June 26-30,
Phillips is one of two deleg
ates from the North Georgia
area.
While at the conference, he
will participate on the rules
committee which will cover ad
justment of the rules committee
and the general outline of the
future in girls and boys basket
ball.
He has been vice president of
Region 8-C for 12 years until
two years ago, when he was
elected to the executive com
mittee for the state, represent
ing Region 4-C.
Phillips has coached girls and
boys basketball at Dawson
County High School for the past
23 years. Prior to this he coa
ched in Forsyth County.
In his 35 years of coaching
in the two counties, Phillips’
teams have had only one losing
season.
He is also a Baptist minister
and pastors Mt. Tabor Baptist
Church.
At Dawson County he teaches
physical education and cer
amics.
He currently has a ceramics
display at Home Federal in
Cumming.

Historical Society
Holds Annual Meeting
The Forsyth County His
torical and Genealogical Soc
iety, Inc. held its first annual
meeting on May 27 at Garland
Bagley’s lakeside retreat.
Many of the members worked
faithfully to make it a grand
event for everyone.
More than 40 guests were in
attendance, many of them from
neighboring Georgia counties
and a few living out-of-state.

in preparing ham, fried chicken

ular member and 15 Honorary
Members.
At the meeting plans were
made to hold regular weekly
meetings at the Pioneer Rest
aurant for planning July 4th
exhibits and activities in Cum
ming. The Society welcomes
suggestions you may have for
this coming event, and solicits
your support and assistance
in any way you might wish to
help.
The regular June meeting will
be held on the last Thursday,
7:30 p.m. at the Pioneer Rest

who were awarded degrees by
Georgia Southwestern college,
Sunday, June 4. She received
the Bachelor of Science in his
tory, magna cum laude.
At Georgia Southwestern, she
has served as a member at large
of the Student Council, Vice-
President of Sophomore class,
member of Kappa Delta
Sorority, Humanities Club, ch
eerleader (one year) and on the
Dean’s list several quarters.
She and her husband also serve
as counselors and dorm super
visors for Sanford Hall.
Darla is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold F. McDonald
of Fayetteville, N. c. and a
’66 graduate of Jonesboro High.
