To the people of Forsyth County:
I am a candidate for the office of Sheriff of Forsyth
County in the Democratic Primary on August 8, 1972
and I will appreciate your vote and influence in this race.
I consider the office of sheriff the most important
office in the county since it deals with your personal
safety as well as the safety of your property.
Burglaries, larcenies and break-ins have increased more
than 100% since I left the office of Sheriff 316 years ago,
even though the number of Deputies have been increased
from 2t05 or 6.1 will have more on this later and will
discuss the other issues in this race more fully, some of
which will be:
1. The amount of money turned over to the county by
my administration compared with the present set-up with
all their extra help and expenses.
2. During the 4’A years l was Sheriff we had 3 murders
and during the last 3‘A years they have already recotded
11 violent murders and possibly 12. (One about
very little was ever said or told)
3. The dope and pill traffic has also increased more
than 100% since 1 left office, and such traffic can only
exist and increase with “protection ”. There are now known
pushers, peddlers and wholesalers that have not been dealt
with. It’s hard to believe what is going on.
4,. The large number of Sheriff’s automobiles that have
been wrecked by their careless operation, (one was wrecked
in Canton and reported by the Sheriff to have been
wrecked near the Taslee-Freeze in Cumming). This is a
matter of Public Record.
5. I have always had a fine record of cooperation with
the GBI (CID) and other investigative agencies and
was never asked to stay out of a case.
Here are some of the things that I will or will not do:
1.1 favor a combination police radio station for the
city of Cumming and the county. This will cut expenses
and should result in better law enforcement for both
the city and county.
2. 1 will hire citizens of the county as Deputies, as 1
do not think that we should go out of the county to
hire officers.
3. I will not associate myself with “gun-toting criminals’’
and known pill pushers and wholesalers but will do my
best to put them in jail where they belong.
4. Khen and if it ever became necessary for me to
fire a deputy, the citizens of the County will know the
reason why, and it will also be a matter of public record.
5. I know what the office, of Sheriff now pays and I
will not ask for an increase for this 4 year term.
(>. I will not allow release bonds to be made for Armed
Robbery as is now being done and which is not in accor
dance with the law. Armed Robbery is not bondable by
the Sheriff and it is not good business to accept bonds
totaling more than the bondsmen is worth.
7. I will work closely with the. young people and they
cun place their confidence in me to treat everyone fairly
and they can not have a better friend in the Sheriff’s
office than myself.
If you are interested in helping to stop the dope and
crime increase in this County, 1 welcome your help,
influence and vole.
My best wishes to everyone.
