for receiving bidproposals ter
minates at 11:00 A.M. at Room
234 in the State Highway Bui
lding. The bid proposals will
then be transferred to Room 401
where they will be publicly op
ened. Bid proposals will not
be received after 11:00 A.M.
Bid proposals may be withdrawn
from Room 234 prior to 11:00
A.M. but cannot be withdrawn
after 11:00 A.M. A withdrawn
bid proposal may again be re
ceived in Room 234 prior to
U:00 A.M.
Acceptance of an offer sub
mitted by the bid proposals will
be given in writing within thirty
days after the opening of the
bid if any such acceptance is
going to be made. Offers of
bidders who do not hold a cur
rent Certificate of Qualifica
tion, H.D. Form 482, will not
be accepted unless prequalifi
cation requirements are speci
fically waived for this work.
Wrok will be governed by
the applicable edition of Stan
dard Specifications as amended
by the contract provisions. Con
tract time will be as Indicated.
Projects financed with Fe
deral funds will contain pro
visions with regard to minimum
wages, employment of labor,
methods of construction, and
subletting or assigning the con
tract. On such projects, the De
partment hereby notifies all
bidders that it will affirmativ
ely Insure that, in any con
tract entered into pursuant to
this advertisement, minority
business enterprises will be
afforded full opportunity to sub
mit bids in response to this
invitation and will not be dis
criminated against on the gr
ounds of race, color, or nat
ional orgln in consideration for
an award.
Any Federally financed work
located within the five county
Atlanta, Ga., Standard Metro
politan Statistical Area of Ful
ton, DeKalb, Cobb, Clayton and
Gwinnett Counties, the es
timated cost of which exceeds
$500,000 , will be subject to
the requirements of the Atlanta
Plan. Requirements of the At
lanta Plan will be Included in
the contract special provisions
where applicable. Copies of the
Atlanta Plan are available from
the same source as plans and
proposals.
Projects financed solely with
state or authority bond funds
will contain H.R. Resolution 34
requiring use of domestic ma
terials.
This advertisement is merely
an Invitation for the submission

find the state’s heaviest water
melon will be held during the
10th annual Watermelon Day
at the Atlanta State Farmers’
Market, Sunday, July 2.
A $25 savings bond prizewill
go to the grower of the heaviest
melon in each of five variety
categories Charleston Gray,
Congo, Cobb Gem, Black Dia
mond and Jubilee. Plus, a SIOO
savings bond to the grower of
the heaviest melon over all.
Georgia watermelon growers
are invited to bring their ent
ries to the Market by 1 p.m.
for judging.

Funeral services were held
June 17 at Harmony Grove Bap
tist Church for John Duran, 78,
Route 7, Cumming.
Mr. Duran died June 15 after a
long illness.

yard.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.
Jane Moss Duran, Cumming;
one daughter, Mrs. B.J. (Mil
dred) Couch, Chicopee; one b
rother, Joe Duran, Cumming;

Raleigh, N.C.; and a number of
nieces and nephews.

Spence, 68, of 214 Hudson S
treet, Cumming.
■ Mr. Spence died June 16 after
a long illness.

Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs.

Robert Cheek
Funeral services were held
Sunday, June 25, for Robert
Cheek, 22, Route 1, Cumming.
Mr. Cheek died Friday, June
23, following injuries he sus
tained in a motorcycle accident.
The Rev. Hoyt Thompson and
John Lummus officiated.
Mr. Cheek was born in Ful
ton County and had lived in
Cumming and Forsyth County
for the past 11 years. He was a
member of the Coal Mountain
Baptist Church and was ordai
ned a deacon last January. He
was employed as an electronics
technician for Sharp Elec
tronics Corporation in Nor
cross.
Survivors are Jiis wife, Mrs.
Jane Mundy Cheek; mother,
Mrs. Virginia Sherrill Cheek,
Cumming; father, Robert A.
Cheek, Marietta; one sister,
Miss Sherri Cheek; father and

Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Westray, Route 3, Cumming, have returned from a 15-day trip around
the world. The couple toured Austria, Iran, Thailand, Singapore, Guam and Hawaii. Weptray
is sales manager for Roger Akins Ford Company in Gainesville and won the trip for sales
