The Gwinnett County Wagon
Train Association, organized
by Wayne Braswell of Lawr
enceville, will leave home base
on July 1 and is expected to
be in Cumming sometime
Monday afternoon. The Wagon
Train boss, Mrs. Helen Bras
well, says there will be app
roximately 50 horses, wagons,
mules and people. They will
camp on the Forsyth County
High School ballfield on Monday
night and will be a part of the
parade on July 4.
The order of line up in the
parade is as follows:
Colors and honor guard,
V.F.W. Post No. 9143; Flash
of Crimson Band, cheerleaders;
engines and threshing ma
chines; antique cars, Boy and
Girl Scouts; ball teams; mini
bikes and go-carts; public off
icials; civic club floats, bus
iness and industry floats; saddle
club, wagons, etc.; and county
fire department.
All these units will line up
on Canton Road beginning at
the Tastee Freez.
All units must be ready at
10:30 a.m. and each unit will
have an identifying sign.
Housley
Cont’d. from Pane I
Right now, though, his No. 1
priority, he says, is getting the
grading done at the Middle
Grades School site.
“I’m going to work on that,”
he says. “Pm going to invite
the board of education to be at
the next meeting of the comm
issioners to see if we can work
out something then and there.”
Housley had a bulldozer at the
site last week, he said.
Housley suggested that the
board of education might want to
hire a private contractor to help
out and that the county would do
its part for nothing. Or, another
alternative would be for the cou
nty to do all the grading and
the board of education would
be responsible for paying for
fuel, breakdowns, etc.
Another thing he is concerned
about is the site for a proposed
center for the mentally retar
ded. He’s willing to go along
with a site “on a long enough
lease. I think it’ll be a good
program,” he says.
But, the grading at the school
site and the site for a ment
ally retarded facility are be
yond the control of Housley.
Before he took office the
other commissioners had ad
opted resolutions halting both
projects and unless the other
two current commissioners will
rescind these resolutions, there
isn’t much Housley can do.
There’s one thing about it,
Housley feels, and this is that
Forsyth County is well
equipped with road machinery.
Two large earth-moving pans
are parked at the barn. The
pans were bought during the
first six months of Munda’s
term for a total of $160,000.
The only thing the pans have
been used for is to grade off
ball fields free of charge and
they haven’t been used much
for this. You see, the county
doesn’t own the type bulldozer
that is required to push the pans.
Housley also pointed out that
the county has been paying the
electricity bills for the area ball
fields. These bills amount to
about $6,000 yearly. “Ihaven’t
seen any of these bills yet,”
Housley says.

The Forsyth County Histor

On both July 3 and 4, there
wil 1 be an auction sale and flea

sale begins at 9 a.m. and will
continue throughout both days.
Col. Horace Beasley will be the

These two days are a blend

It’s one of a kind, a spokesman
said.
