conference for directors and
executive officers of Production
Credit Associations and Fed
eral Land Bank Associations in
the Carolinas, Florida and Ge
orgia, according to E. L. Mc-
Locklin, General Manager of
the association.
The conference which was
held at the Marriott Motor H
otel in Atlanta during June 11-
13 was sponsored by The Fed
eral Intermediate Credit Bank
of Columbia, South Carolina,
and The Federal Land Bank
of Columbia, South Carolina.

tly serving nearly 90,000 far
mers, growers and ranchers
throughout the four states area
with over $1.6 billion in out
standing loans.
The North Georgia Produc
tion Credit Association is cur
rently serving 1,650 farmers
with loans totalling $23 mill
ion dollars in 18 northeast G
eorgia counties.

Mack Trucks
The State Office of Highway
Safety today announced that it
has received word that cer
tain models of Mack trucks now
on the road could be a poten
tial accident hazard.
According to a National High
way Traffic Safety Administra
tion Bulletin, recent accidents
Involving some of these Mack
truck models are believed to ha
ve occured because of a defect
near the axle system. Three
recent accidents in this cate
gory resulted in two fatalities.
NHTSA Administrator Doug
las W. Toms said the Depart
ment had received an estimate
that 27,000 Mack trucks could be
involved In the recall campaign.
Advising immediate replace
ment of an aluminum spring
“cap” in certain Mack truck
models, the NHTSA says that
cracks leading to breakage of
the “cap” could allow the truck

trol.
The Office of Highway Safety
advises immediate inspection
for cracks near the bolt holes
in these caps on all Mack truck
models B, C, G, H, F, MB,
R, and U from the 1956 models
through and including the 1969
models equipped with an SWDL
56 Series Bogie axle.
Owners of the Mack trucks
listed are warned immediaely
to inspect the spring caps for
any evidence of cracks or dam
age near the bolt holes. The
NHTSA strongly adivses that if
cracks or damage are found
the truck should not be driven.
All Mack truck Incorporated
dealers are said to have been
instructed by the manufacturer
to supply replacement iron sp
ring caps, free of charge to
the truck owner.
