Security Benefit To Increase Automatically
Social Security beneficiaries

ct Manager in Gainesville said
today that all social security
beneficiaries who are on the
benefit rolls in September will
receive the increase automati
cally.- The increase is effect
ive beginning the payments for
the month of September, (ch
ecks received October 3.)
The average monthly benefit
for a retired worker goes up
from $134 to $162; for a re
tired couple from $224 to a
bout $271. Awidowed mother w
ith two children will receive
an average social security ben
efit of about $386, up from $322.

founder of the five year old Pre
ferred Land Corporation, ann
ounced to more than 5, 000
Georgia shareholders today th
at the fiscal year ended May 31,
1972, resulted in net profits af
ter taxes of $648,000, up 54%
over the previous year, and that
assets rose to more than $23,
000,000.
Only the first year of op
eration, fiscal 1968, showed a
small deficit. Each successive
year has been profitable and
retained earnings now amount
to more than $1,200,000. Ca
pital is at $9,702,000.
Preferred Land expanded its
operations into Florida in fis
cal 1972, and currently has an
$8,000,000 condominium proj
ect under construction in Pa
lm Beach. "Advance sales,”
said Tallant, "have far exc
eeded our expectations, and we
now have several projects sc
heduled for. the Orlando area
involving condominiums, apart
ments and (purist attractions.”
The company moved headqu
arters to its newly completed
office and retail shopping cen
ter building on Interstate 285
at Roswell Road along with se
veral affiliate companies. Two
new affiliates activated in fis
ca 1972 include World Music
Corporation, specializing in In
terstate Highway and Rapid T
tansit development. Transland
is headed by Preferred Land
board and finance committee m
ember. Jack Hardy.
Other highlights of the year
include the opening of the $3,
000,000 Milledge Heights Sho
pping Center in Milledgeville,
containing Woolworth's largest
retail store—worldwide.
Preferred Land was awarded
the franchise to build and op
erate the vacation housing de
velopment on Lake Lanier Is
lands.
The company also formed P
referred Environmental Syste
ms Sorporatlon In partnership
with Environment One, Inc. of
Schnectaday, New York, to mar
ket, Install and operate--as p
ubllc utilities-pressurized se
werage systems. The system is
now in operation in various p
arts of the country and the si
miplicity and uniqueness of low
initial cost, Installation and m
aintenance open land areas for
development that now ha ve po
tential due to lack of sewerage
facilities.
Of the new fiscal 1973, Mr.
Tallant said, “barring a se
vere economic setback, I ex
pect Preferred Land to conti
nue to attain its annual goal
of 50% increase in assets and
50% increase in net profits af
ter taxes.”

made to certain individuals age
72 and over who are not in
sured for regular social sec
urity case benefits will also be
increased by 20%, from $48.30
to $58.00 for an individual and
from $72.50 to $87.00 for a

rise, workers whose earnings
are at or about the level of
the maximum earnings base will
pay contributions on higher ea
