Youth And Education
Keys In Real Estate
ATLANTA (PRN) - There
are few professions which
offer more to the young
person than real estate,
according to Stewart Wight,
president of the Georgia
Association of Realtors. Nor,
he added, are there many
professions which are more
demanding.
“Youth and education” are
now the key words in real
estate, according to Mr. Wight,
who joined area Realtors this
week in celebrating National
Realtor Week, May 21-29.
“Real estate,” Mr. W'ight
said, “is one of the few
professions in which earnings
are directly related to energy.”
And, he added, “we see more
and more young people
coming in because they want
to be on their own - and they
are all doing well.”
But, he warned, real estate
graduates are also finding new
and greater demands being
made upon them.
“Innovations caused by
technological advances in
housing, shifting populations
and the increasing numbers of
investors turning to real estate
for tax investments and capital
gains have created the need for
specialized skills,” he
commented.
Because of the new
knowledge and training
required, Mr. Wight said,
emphasis is being placed in
college programs and

specialization. Although real
estate is a relatively new field
for colleges, there are now
more than 500 young people
enrolled in programs at the
University of Georgia and
Georgia State University.
There are 100 enrolled in
graduate studies at Georgia
State alone.
“It is becoming more
important for the real estate
student to be well qualified
in the new techniques of the
industry - urban land
planning, zoning laws, growth
potential, real estate finance,
brokerage and management
service,” Mr. Wight added.
The GAR was instrumental
in establishing the department
of real estate at the University
•of Georgia, Mr. Wight
included, and helped develop
the curriculum.
Realtors, he added, are also
working to serve the public in
other ways, including
development of legislation to
curtail blockbusting practices
and strong efforts to secure
relief from increasing property
taxes.
“The thing that sets aside
the Realtor,” he added, “is his
desire to improve his service
through education and
training so we can render
better service each year.
“The Realtor,” he added,
“is a good neighbor and a
good citizen who is usually a
leader in community and civic
affairs.”

LARRY THOMASON
ATLANTA (PRN) - State
Representative Larry
Thomason, a candidate for the
Public Service Commission,
said today that when elected
he will remove the doors from
his office.
“For too long the Public
Service Commission has been a
hide out for officials who do
not want the public to know
what they are doing,” said the
veteran legislator. Thomason
said he does not believe in the
“open door policy.” “I believe
in the ‘no door’ policy.”
