pleased indeed to offer the

Cumberland will mark two
important ‘firsts’ in

FORSYTH COUNTY COMMISSION POST 5
Hello,
I’m Robert Coker
A Candidate For
Tax Commissioner
of Forsyth County
As tax commissioner I will do everything possible to eliminate the waste of valuable
time now being lost standing in line at the office during the tag buying season. During
this time I will open the office early in the morning, stay open late in the evenings,
Saturday afternoons, and the office will always be open during the lunch hour, I intend
to work out a system for mail drdering the auto tag. I will do this in order to accomod
ate all the people of Forsyth County.
I will meet with any citizen of the county at anytime to discuss and try to resolve any'
problem or complaint they may have with the office, or the personel within the office.
All the personel in the tax office will be honest, friendly, respectful, and courteous
with you at all times.
On back taxes, I intend to and will do everything within the power of the office to
collect these taxes. In my visiting around to some of the homes in the county these
past few days, I find it hard to believe that some of the names which appear on the
delinquent iist are actually delinquents. I will work with the people with this problem
directly, get with all concerned, and after an investigation has been made; do find they
owe these taxes, then action ivill be taken to collect these taxes.
I will work with the County Commissioners, Tax Assessors, and all concerned citizens
in equalizing and preventing any further increases in our property taxes. I will work
with all the city and county government in an effort to better organize and to estab
lish a closer relation within the offices, and would like for all interested citizens to get
involved by having open meetings and discussing all the problems now facing all the
people of Forsyth County; try to look ahead and plan for the rapid growth, and ser
vices of our county.
In consideration of the current financial standing of our county it is useless for me
to try to tell you how vitally important it is that we elect and employ honest citizens
to fill every office of our government. We must elect a complete body of dedicated,
dependable, honest, and qualified citizens putting emphasis on good and readily avail
able service to all, in order to put a great county such as ours back on the road to
to success. This is why I’m asking you for your vote and support on August Bth, 1972.
Remember me on this date.
I am thankful for and proud of both my home and of Forsyth County.. I would like
to work with and serve you the people of Forsyth County, so give me a chance, get
out then and vote for Robert S. Coker, a man who enjoys helping you.
Thank you and may God bless.
Cumberland Mall Opening
Date Set For August , 1973
have been together.
Cumberland will have some 95
other mall stores offering
specialized merchandise and
services at all price levels.
Never has such a cross section
of quality merchandise in one
shopping center been offered
to consumers in the Greater
Atlanta Area. This variety,
coupled with our location at
Interstate 285 near Interstate
75, means that Cumberland
Mall will have a vast marketing
outreach not only to Atlanta
and Cobb County, but also
across Georgia and into
Alabama, Tennessee and
South Carolina.”
Cumberland Mall is owned
by Frank Carter and Ewell
Pope of Atlanta, and Trammel
Crow of Dallas, in partnership
with Centennial Equities, Inc.,
a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Metropolitan Life Insurance
Company. Crow, Carter and
Associates is the developer and
exclusive leasing agent for the
mall.
In discussing the unique
aspects of Cumberland Mall,
Frank Carter emphasized
planning.
“We studied the situation
and saw that Cumberland had
a primary trade area of
200,000 people with an
average family income of
$15,000. Our secondary trade
area is in excess of 400,000
people. Now this is a quality
market, a fashion-oriented
market, and it extends into
cities and towns throughout
Georgia and three other
bordering states. So we knew
we had the market, now we
had to be sure that our
customers could get to us. Our
location at 1-285 with two
accesses, U.S. 41 and Paces
Ferry Road, is easy to get to
and has excellent visibility for
Interstate travelers. What’s
more, Cumberland Mall is just
a stone’s throw away from the
1-285 and 1-75 interchange.
This is the heart of Atlanta’s
most dramatic growth
corridor.
“Traffic planning for
Cumberland Mall has been
extensive,” Carter continued,
k V
if If ’•/ f 7jk .
“a bridge just to handle future
Cumberland Mall traffic was
built across 1-285 at the time
the Interstate was being
constructed in the fall of
1970. This bridge was built at
our expense at no cost to the
taxpayers. This kind of
planning is vital in order to
successfully handle today’s
traffic loads at modern
shopping centers.
“Now the mall itself to me
is very exciting. Our
architects, Thompson,
Ventulett and Stainback, were
very much aware of the
natural beauty of the area and
have forcefully attempted to
create a design that is as
esthetic as it is functional. The
interior of the mall is a truly
living environment with trees,
flowers and shrubs in
abundance. Lovely gardens
and fountains will serve as
focal points. A most unique
treatment of light will create a
dynamic, everchanging effect.
Through openings in the
ceilings and walls, sunlight will
play across the interior of the
mall so that a different mood
is achieved on almost a
moment to moment basis,”
Carter concluded.
Although work on
Cumberland Mall is well
underway, the official
groundbreaking ceremonies
will take place Saturday, May
20, at 11:30 a.m. More details
for the shopping center are
expected to be revealed at that
time.
Cumberland Mall is part of
the overall planned
Cumberland community
consisting of 360 acres, whidh
includes an office park,
apartments, and
condominiums. Cumberland
Office park encompasses 50
acres along one mile of
frontage on 1-285. The first
two office buildings are
presently in various stages of
occupancy. Mission Ridge,
Cumberland’s first apartment
village, has 458 units and is
now completed. Stonewall, a
condominium village with 97
units in the $32,000 to
$50,000 range, is now under
construction.
SEAMSTRESS TIP
If you have trouble keeping
your pattern guide sheet
handy, here is a tip from
University of Georgia Ex
tension home economists. Put
a bulletin board or cork board
above your sewing machine
and pin the guide sheet there.
You can read it without
moving and always have it in
front of your eyes. This is also
a convenient place for pattern
envelopes, pattern pieces and
other sewing items that can be
easily pinned up.
4-H FARMING
Projects related to farm and
agri-business are among the
most popular in Georgia 4-H
today. More than one-third of
the state’s 160,000 Four-H
members are enrolled in the
agricultural program. Under
the direction of the University
of Georgia Cooperative Ex
tension Service, this modern
program encompasses every
practical segment of the
agricultural economy. For

A MESSAGE FROM CARROLL TALLANT ON DOPE, PILLS, AND VIOLENCE
The dope and pill traffic in Forsyth County has nached alarming propor
tions in the last three and one-half years. It is high time that aU. fathers and
mothers and their children stand up against this “terrible curse” and be
counted. v
Recently we have witnessed friends killing friends, children alledgely having
their parents murdered, armed robbery with the victims being killed and all
manner of break-ins and theft, most of which can be traced directly or indir
ectly to dope or pills.
Three and one-half years ago when I left the sheriff s office, it was not be=
lieveable that these things could, and would be happening in our county.
This was something that we read about in the papers. We had no idea that it
could ever reach its tentacles into Forstyh County.
When I was sheriff, with only two deputies, we were able to keep the dope
and pill business to a minimum, and it did not take us three and one-half
years to catch one of the “king-pins” in this business. This same “king-pin”
recently plead guilty to possessing and selling dangreous drugs—and listen to
this; this king-pin will be eligible for a parole in about 18 months and some
of his friends are now saying that he will be out just as soon as the election
is over! His accomplices in this case only received “Probation” and a fine.
All of our citizens, preachers, teachers and parents should be alarmed, and I
ask you to call on our courts to deal with the dope and pill-pushers and the
“wholesalers” in such a manner that will put a stop to this traffic. I ask you
to talk to your District Attorney and talk to your Judges in order to get
sentences passed on those guilty of Drug offenses that will spell justice for
these “awful crimes” before they reach into your family.
I have an 18 year old son in my home and I’m concerned. I’m concerned
about your childern. I hope you will help elect me sheriff of Forsyth County
on August Bth, 1972 and then back me up. I assure you that these ‘PiU
peddlers” and “Dope Puhsers” will go out of business or find themselves in
jail.
I feel that such an alarming increase as we have had in the Drug traffic ifn
the last three and one-half years can only flourish when it has “protection*’.
Crime in Atlanta or other places flourish only when it has “protection” frothy
law enforcement officials.
When it comes to dope and pills we are dealing with the health and life of
every adult and child that can be persuaded to buy and try the “stuff”. I call
on the ministers of our churches to take a “Text” on this subject and help
awaken our citizens. Perhaps it would save someone’s life before they
become afflicted and addicted.
If you will go to the polls on August Bth. 1972 and work for me pne day and
elect me your Sheriff, I will do my best, and will work for you 365 days a
year for the next four years and with pour help and backing we will bring
this drug traffic to a “Screeching” halt.
Come by my headquarters next to Jack’s Restaurant, enjoy a coke and give
me the benefit of your thinking or call me at 887-7763 or 887-7764.
Thank you,
Carroll Tallant
Candidate For Sheriff of Forsyth County.
