PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga.
(PRN) U.S. Senator David
Gambrell, speaking to the
Georgia Association of
Broadcasters Convention here
June 14, said he would favor a
“high level” consumer
protection agency but not
necessarily a cabinet post.
“Everyone seems to want a
separate secretary for any
good program or cause, and
this adds only to
jHHK
proliferation,” the Senator
said. He said the greater
protection would likely come
in providing a well organized
agency at a high level, giving it
the same priority treatment as
a cabinet post. He said his
Senate record over the past 16
months showed his interest in
the consumer, including his
work for inflation controls.
The Senator spoke as part
of a panel of three candidates
for the U.S. Senate
Democratic nomination. Other
participants were former
governor Ernest Vandiver of
Lavonia and state Senator Sam
Nunn of Perry.
On bonanzas, the Senator
said he was the only candidate
in the senate race who had
made a full disclosure of his
financial condition. He said he
was wholeheartedly in favor of
new federal laws providing
guidelines on giving. He
emphasized that he had always
been a strong supporter of a
person’s having to make a
clear report on contributions
because this “protects the
people and the nation.”
Senator Gambrell said he
was “totally opposed to
amnesty” in any form, and
that the law should not give
special consideration to
persons who refuse to serve
their country just because
they disagree with a particular
war.

for the Presidential
nomination. He said he had
watched the South Dakota
Democrat vote in the Senate
over the past 16 months, and
such votes indicated he is not
likely to make concessions to
Southerners during the
National Democratic
Convention.

Cont'd. from Page t
from the down town shopping
area, and as it is the largest
"supermarket in the county, Ch-~
ambless said, “H & K’s opening
was unusually successful for the
middle of the week.” The super
market has as much shelving
space as any of the supermar
kts over Georgia, Chambless
added.
Organized 50 years ago, Al
terman Foods, Inc., has guided
H & K. Alterman Foods, Inc.
is Atlanta based and retains
the strongest buying power in
this area, Chambless said.
Their warehouse for stock is
the largest food supply center
in the South.
Located on 700,000 square
feet in the Fulton Industrial
area, the firm feels that H & K
has priced their foods with
supermarket prices.
The Alterman Brothers Co
operative, A.8.C., is owned by
five brothers. The director of
A.8.C., Joe Seitz was here
for H & K’s grand opening.
Also, Field Supervisor, Jessie
Allen Crocker with A.B.C. was
present.
New to this area, H & K
has facilities for a computer
ordering system. The entire
grocery list can be ordered
within three minutes. The com
puter in Atlanta decodes the
list, and the entire grocery
list or up to 1,200 individual
items per minute can be re
corded by the computer. The
complete order of merchandise
can be transferred to H & K
within one day, Chambless said.
The supervisor said he had
worked with members of H & K’s
staff and they were among the
best in the business. Speaking
of H & K *s meat market man
ager, Jerry Cowart Chambless
said , H & K was fortunate to
have him with his market ex
perience.
Larry Kohn is the manager «
of the independently owned su
permarket.
Accommodating approxima
tely 210 cars in a well-land
scaped location, H & K’s grand
opening was very successful,
Chambless said.
