HAIR FALL-OUT
Excessive hair fall-out is a
sure sign of trouble for a wom
an. Heavy hair fall-out can be
caused by a scalp problem, or
it can be the sign of brittle hair.
You can easily determine which
is the reason for falling hair by
simply examining the hair.
Brittle, broken hair has no
root. The root is bulbous
shaped. If the root of the hair
is attached, then you can be
fairly certain that some condi
tion of the scalp is causing
your problem. You should re
member, however, that a cer
tain amount of normal hair
falls out regularly, and this
fall-out Increases in the Spring
and again in the Fall.
The best wav to avoid hair
problems is through regular
professional care Clean hair is

6 YOUR LIFE
INSURANCE

Prepared by the American
Society of Chartered Life
Underwriters, the national

professionals who have
earned the C.L.U. designation
by meeting high educational,
ethical and experience
requirements.
Q. I have a psychological
hang-up about buying life
insurance. 1 probably should
get more life insurance since
my family needs the
protection and deserves it.
How do other people bring
themselves to buy something
that you have to die to
collect?
A. Who says you have to die
to collect? Insurance
companies are actually
sending people more money
in living benefits than in
death benefits.
In 1970, for instance,
death benefits came to $7
billion, but the living benefits
received by people from
insurance policies and
annuities for retirement and
other purposes in 1970 were
$9.4 billion.

Guides For Rating Kitchen Efficiency
Looking for a new home or
apartment can be easier if you
have a few guidelines to go by.
Since the kitchen is such an
important factor in making
everyday living easy and en
joyable, the following point
ers from Hotpoint’s Kitchen
and Laundry Planning Serv
ice can help you determine if
the kitchen is planned for ef
ficiency. , ....
The layout of the kitchen is
one of the most important
considerations, so first check
the location of major appli
ances, Hotpoint suggests. Of
ten what appears on the sur
face to be an attractive kitch
en is in reality not planned
for the best utilization of
space and equipment. Look
for faulty design such as ap
pliance doors that can block
the kitchen aisle when open,
and inconvenient and time
wasting appliance location
factors, such as the range
and refrigerator side by side.
The sequence of work in a
kitchen moyes from storage
to preparation, to cook and
serve. The logical arrange
ment then has the refrigera
tor and its associated storage
areas for foodstuffs near the
service entrance, followed by
the sink (or mixing) center,
then the cook and serve area
located as conveniently to the
dining room or breakfast nook
as possible.
Studies have shown that
more than half of the work
done in the kitchen is per
formed at the sink. Therefore,
in the ideal situation, the sink
center is between the refrig
erator center and the cooking
center.
The kitchen divided into
these three centers forms
what is called the “work tri
angle.” (Shown in attached
illustration.)
Without exception, experi
enced kitchen planners agree
that each major appliance
center must have some work
ing counter available. Under
the most desirable conditions,
the refrigerator should have
a minimum of 15 inches _of
counter top at the opening
side for loading and unload
ing, and the range serves best
if counter space is available
on both sides. In the case of
the sink, it is a must to have
no less than 24 inches of
counter on each side to pro
vide the space needed for a
dishwasher.
Placing unrelated appli
ances side by side, such as the
refrigerator and oven, is a
common planning error which
overlooks the need for func
tional counter space. If there
is a built-in oven, the open
door of the highest oven
should be lower than the
user’s elbow. Mounting too
high can make it difficult to
remove roasting and baking
pans.

Also, check the doors of
cabinets and appliances to see
if they seriously block traffic
aisles when open. This is espe
cially important in a corri
dor-type kitchen arrangement
where appliances face each
other. The width of the aisle
should be a minimum of 42
inches, and preferably 48
inches. A narrow aisle can re
sult in many clumsy, uncom
fortable work patterns due to
working in a limited space.
If there is a separate dining
room and breakfast area, the
ideal location for the kitchen
is between the two. This eli
minates many tiring extra
steps from the kitchen through
the breakfast area to the din
ing room during the serving
of a formal dinner.
By keeping these hints in
mind as you look for a new
home or apartment, you can
most accurately evaluate
which one is best suited for
your needs.
