The
Living
Way
By REV. ROGER WILLIAMS
PASTOR, CUMMING FIRST
BAPTIST CHURCH
“And now I say unto you, Refrain
from these men, and let them alone:
for if this counsel or this work be of
men, it will come to nought:
But if it be of God, ye cannot over
throw it; lest ye ms xounu even iu
fight against God.” (Acts 5:38-39)
Before Christ came into the world there arose ■ prophets
who became about man’s reasons for doing what he did.
They spoke particularly to the religious community. T
heir concern was that man’s religious devotion should sp
ring from one’s love for God and for the sheer Joy of serv
ing him as expressed in deeds of service to their fellow men.
Whether or not this joy is real or merely a facade is seen
by the way in which we respond to pressure and criticism
One test that was put to some early Christians was that,
“if it is of God, it will last.’’ When our service is only skin
deep instead of heart deep, we easily “blow our cool” when
we are criticized or when the pressure mounts.
The best and most lasting service and devotion is that wh
ich would be done even if no one ever knew about it. That k
lnd of devotion is immune to judgement and criticism, but
If it’f not real, “the one who is bitten yelps first.”
Res 1 joy and satisfaction comes from knowing that we are
serving God because of what he has done for us, not because
of man’s approval.
Quite often such service fails to win men’s acceptance.
Let’s be a joy as we serve, not a sourpuss and discover an
inner delight and strength in doing a job well.

rmSeriou/!
Maybe you like smiling babies? Sorry to disappoint you,
but I’ve got a lot on my mind.
There’s something wrong in America . . . and I’m the
chap who is getting hurt!
Our Constitution says that no one can be denied the
right to worship God. I’m an American! According to the
Constitution I have the right to learn about God, to hear the
Bible Stories, to be taught the Christian Way of Life.
But here’s the hitch. While the Government can’t deny
me the right to attend church school and church —MY PAR
ENTS CAN. They can rob me of my most sacred right just
by neglecting my spiritual needs.
Did you know that about half the children in America are
growing up without religious training? And yet there’s a
church in every village!
Yes sir, I’m serious! Instead of talking about it, we ought
to do something! And we ought to start Sunday!
