Forsyth County Commission Post #5
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY
RUNOFF AUGUST 29
came u> summing onApril3oth.
The statement read, "they rode
by the Morgan home several
times.” They stopped and Ho
ward entered the front door,
walked into the Morgans’ bed
room and began shooting. Af
ter hearing Mr. Morgan groan
Howard went to the kitchen,
went back to the bedroom and
scuffled with Mr. Morgan. Then
picking up two pocketbooks and
a jewelry box, Howard went
back across the street and got
in the car with Bob Shaw. The
statement concluded that Ho
ward only saw Michael and Ho
llis one time during the next
week.
In Howard’s statements he
wrote that Hollis thanked him
twice for the murder of Mic
hael’s parents.
After the murders, Howard
and Robert Shaw returned to
Atlanta. The statement indi
cated that Howard only talked
to Michael Morgan one time
after the death of Michael's
parents.
Tl *e next day, Howard said
in his statement, ne ourned his
clothing that he was wearing the
night of the murder and threw
his shoes into a river.
As the jurors were out. Judge
Marlon Pope said Howard’s wr
itten statement should be pre
sented to the jury as Howard
was the principal figure in the
murders, and it was premedi
tated homocide.
Appearing in a coat and tie, -
Howard showed very little emo
tion as the State’s witnesses
testified about the Investigation.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Ho
ward did raise an eyebrow as
a Division of Investigation wit
ness stated, "Wallace Morgan
had been slashed to Dleces.”
Dr. Larry B. Howard,
Georgia Crime Laboratory, te
stified that at 6:30 on April
30th, he was called to Cum
ming by G. 8.1. Agent Pinyon,

and the cause of Wallace Mor
gan’s death was from three
types of wounds.
Then on May 2nd, he was
called to Northside Hospital.
He stated, "five gun shot wo
unds went into Mrs. Morgan’s
body end the position indicated
the body was lying in bed.”
Attorney Neville objected on
"the grounds they are horrible
and would unduly inflame the
jury,” as the crime technician
had made pictures of the in
flicted wounds from the .22
caliber bullets.
The State is expected to pre
sent the remaining witnesses
for the State Defense Wednes
day morning.

DRUG ABUSE
The problem of drug abuse is widespread. It involves not just a distant t
world of criminals and "dope fiends." Many reputable people in the real, •
close at hand world are caught in the web of drug abuse. But the real cost f
of the problem is found not just in the number of people lost to a \
productive society. Drug abuse feeds millions of dollars into organized •
crime, causes hundreds of thousands of dollars in property loss and 1
places the burden of responsibility on the rest of society to reclaim its l
members.
