Proposal
For Energy
Council
A publicai*wii oi tne Public
Service Company of Colorado
reports that the president of
the Edison Electric Institute,
Mr. W. Donham Crawford, has
proposed that a national en
ergy council be created to co
ordinate government policies
concerning fuel and energy. The
publication went on to say that
Mr. Crawford told the American
Power Conference in Chicago
that the council is needed be
cause “fuel and energy de
velopments in this country are
affected by a melang of go
vernmental policies that are of
ten in direct conflict with each
other.” He said that a council,
reporting directly to the Presi
dent, could be most helpful in
bringing order to many dis
connected, inconsistent, and in
coherent policies under which
the energy industries now func
tion.
DEFICIT
“Nation’s Business” puts it
this way: “First the ‘good’
news: The federal deficit for
the year ended June 30 was about
sl3 billion less than expected—
only $26 billion. (That amounts
to about $125 for every man,
woman and child in the United
States.) Now the bad news: The
new fiscal year deficit could
well be another $lO billion hi
gher than that. Someday, the
whole thing will have to be
paid off.”
NOT MUCH BULL
According to “Food and Nu
trition News”, the average
1,000-pound steer yields only
about-7 5 pounds of porterhouse,
T-bone, club and sirloin steaks
and four times as much of the
less tender cuts of beef as the
round, chuck, rump and beef
for stew or grinding. In total,
that 1,000 pounds is reduced to
just 480 pounds of retail meat
cuts at the store counter.
