Atlanta Gas Light Company
has filed an application with the
Georgia Public Service Com
mission for authority to in
crease its rates and charges
for gas service and change cer
tain classifications, services,
and rules and regulations rel
ating thereto.
In its application, the Com
pany represents that because oi
the sharp rise in the Company’s
costs coupled with a substan
tial decline in revenues , the
Company’s earnings have been
reduced below a level which is
just, reasonable or compensa
tory. For example, since the
Company’s last rate pro
ceeding, there has been an in
crease in payroll expenses of
19 per cent. Taxes other than
income taxes have increased
during that period by approx
imately 17 per cent. Substantial
increases have occurred and
will continue to occur in thf
costs of the materials, supp
lies, and services required in
the Company’s operations. Mo
reover, capital expenditures
which do not produce additional
revenues to the Company but,
because of current gas supplj
conditions, must be made ir
order for the Company to con
tinue to supply the demands o'
its customers and supplement
pipeline gas supplies are also
set forth in the application.
