The
Living
Way
By REV. ROGER WILLIAMS
PASTOR. CUMMING FIRST
BAPTIST CHURCH
Getting out where the people are is an absolute necessity
for Christians today. Paul, one of the greatest Christians
who ever lived is a good case in point. He discovered that
he must concentrate on the citizens where most of the peo
ple were and that he must get out into the city with the peo
ple. If he stuck to preaching to Judaism he could get a good
hearing at the synagogues, but out in the large urban centers
of paganism the people wouldn't come to “church” to hear
the gospel.
In the earlier years of America the church’s strategy was
to win the world by bringing it to the church to hear the gos
pel and this worked as long as there was a village—oriented
population. However, today this strategy has ceased to be
effective. The world won’t come to church anymore.
The people of God should continue to gather, but only to
equip themselves to go out to minister. Most of our religi
ous energy should be expended in the world, not at the “c
--hurchhouse.”
Modern secular man does not have the respect for the in
stitutional church tIW his forefathers had. He is no longer
afraid of hell no ( es he respect the Bible as an authority.
This means th t t .e modern Christian approach must em
phasize the witness! \g layman who shares his testimony in
his daily habitat. Hs must emphasize such things as how G
od has given him Meaning, purpose and peace in the midst
of his impersonal and how he has found the capabil
ity of loving others through Christ. We live in a time when
modern secular nan will listen only to the realistic testi
monies of his fellow laymen and thaese testimonies must be
buttressed by unique and majestic lives.

People are so busy here and there that they often tail to perceive the
beauty and grandeur of Creation.
A storm at sea, a beautiful sunrise or a full moon riding in a clear sky
are but commonplace aspects of the weather. Towering mountains, a great
waterfall or a far-spread fertile valley are but features of the landscape.
Blessed is the man gifted with the vision and understanding to see the
deeper meaning of Nature's matchless wonders.
For behind all the wonderful phenomena of earth and sea and sky is the
pattern of a sublime plan which stirs the awe and challenges the imagination
of man. There can be but one answer to the marvels and wonders of the uni
verse God! The Church brings man into spiritual relationship with his Creator.
