Colonial Williamsburg archi
tecture is the design of the new
$200,000 expansion of the For
syth County Bank to be comple
ted by January.
Featuring a portico entrance,
the large two-story Williams
burg bank building was planned
by Arthur F. Kiser Jr., Atlanta
architect.
Consideration of the expan
sion was specifically discussed
last October by Forsyth County
Bank’s Board of Directors, P
resident Leon Boling, Eldo Gr
ogan, A.C. Smith Jr., George
Bagley Roy Heard, Carl Jack
son and Don Thompson.
An entrance will be constru
cted to face the old Atlanta Ro
ad as well as the present Maple
Street entrance.
A 100-foot rock wall is being
constructed, which when back

filled, will add an additional 20
parking spaces.
As the new position will be
accessible to three streets, C
astleberry Road, Maple Street,
and Atlanta Road, the area will
allow for an additional accomm
dation of 100 parking spaces
upon the completed constru
ction.
"As the future need arises,
there is ample room for sev
eral more drive-in windows to
be added,’’ executive vice pre
sident Don Thompson stated.
The present design calls for two
drive-in windows.
In the January completion,
a "community room,” which
presently has not been named,
will accommodate 60 guests.
The "community room” will
offer a complete heating air
conditioning system of its own.
The room will have complete
kitchen facilities. With carpet,
vinyl wall paper and a heavy
draw curtain, the room may al
so be used to present public
interest films.
A "closing room” is included
in the design for customers with
business type transactions and
meetings, the executive vice
president stated.
It has long been recognized
by the bank officials that with
the growth of the Forsyth C
ounty area, "Cumming and F
orsyth County has a need for
a specific conference room a
vallable for public business
use,” bank director Eldo Gro
gan indicated.
Contractor Phil Par due ofP
ardue Construction Company,
and bank officials stated, "the
citv. phone and power compan-
ies have been very cooper
ative.'’ Also, Par doe added,
"the citizens of Forsyth Cou
nty are fortunate to have this
spirit of cooperation.” , c
With construction, the e£ec
i'ih
utive vice-president stated,
"the bank is taking every ef
fort to make the construction
as convenient as possible for
customers.”
The bank business section is
located in the rear area in a
temporary mobile - unit. Assi
sting the customers, a golf c
art is being used to transport
those customers from the cu
rrent unit io the old building
should they need to use their
safety deposit boxes, Thompson
stated. The bookkeeping staff of
the bank remains in the old
structure.
