The Chattooga River forms
part of the state’s boundary,
with South Carolina. It has long
been a focal point of interest
among conservationists and ot
hers who want to preserve its
unspoiled character.
Until recently, most of the
land along the river’s banks
was held by Georgia Power,
which had acquired the acreage
for potential hydroelectric de

Forest Service.
However, Georgia Power
which had gone on record be

under the single guidance of
the Forest Service for preser

As part of its interest in
the Chattooga, Georgia Power

steps to preserve the natural

hydroelectric reservoir that the
Chattooga empties into.
The company does not permit
cabins to be built along Tugalc’s
shores and plans to limit devel

fishing.
