HOT AND HEARTY
HOAGIE
1 egg
Vz cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup soft bread crumbs
1 pound ground beef
1 loaf Italian bread
French’s Prepared Yellow
Mustard
4 slices Swiss cheese
1 envelope (1-oz.) French’s
Onion Gravy Mix
Stir together egg, milk, and
salt. Add bread crumbs and
meat; mix lightly. Split Italian
bread in half lengthwise.
Spread both halves with
mustard, then with meat
mixture. Arrange cheese over
meat. Bake at 400 degrees for 15
to 20 minutes. Prepare Onion
Gravy Mix as directed on en
velope . Cut each half of loaf into
3 sections and serve with onion
gravy. 6 servings.

Beef and Biscuit Bake—a
ground beef mixture baked
between biscuit layers—is a
simple, satisfying mealmaker
that’s ready to serve in about
one-half hour. The ac
companying gravy, smooth and
flavorful, is made from an
envelope of brown gravy mix
with Worcestershire sauce
adding tantalizing tang.
Browned pork sausage and
canned corn, combined in a
custard,like mixture makes the
intriguing Baked Scalloped
Corn and Sausage. The com
plementary gravy is easily
prepared with an envelope of
gravy mix for pork.
Good go-alongs for either dish
are cole slaw, green peas and
for dessert, canned , fruit
cocktail and cookies and glasses
of milk. Both are quick meals
that are nevertheless balanced
to provide servings from the
four food groups we all need to
keep fit.
BAKED SCALLOPED CORN
ANDSAUSAGE
1 pound pork sausage
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon Salt
1 can (1-lb.) whole kernel corn,
drained
2 cups soft bread crumbs
1 envelope (%-oz.) French’s
Gravy Mix for Pork
Cook sausage until well
browned, stirring to crumble,
about 15 minutes; drain off
excess fat. Lightly beat
together eggs, milk, and salt.
Stir in sausage, corn and bread
crumbs. Spoon into shallow' IV 2 -
quart baking dish. Bake at 400
degrees for 15 to 20 minutes,
until knife inserted in center
comes out clean. Prepare gravy
mix as directed on envelope.
Serve over Baked Corn and
Sausage. ‘4 to 6 servings.
BEEFAND
BISCUIT BAKE
1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoohs French’s Minced
Onion
l/ 2 cup mayonnaise
V 2 teaspoon, salt
2 cups .biscuit mix
One-third Oup milk
1 envelope ( s /4-oz.) French’s
Brown Gravy Mix
1 tablespoon French’s Wor
cestershire Sauce
Brown groqnd beef in skillet,
stiring to crumble. Stir in onion,
V 4 cup of the mayonnaise, and
salt. Stir together biscuit mix,
niilk, and remaining V 4 cup
mayonnaise. Spread half the
biscuit dough in well greased 8-
inch square baking pan ; spoon
ground beef mixture over
dough. Top with remaining
dough; spread over beef,
covering as well as possible.
Bake at 425 degrees for 15 to 20
minutes, until browned.
Prepare gravy mix as directed
on envelope; stir in Wor
cestershire sauce. Cut Biscuit
Bake into squares and serve
with gravy. 6 servings.
“Storytime”
Planned
“Storytime” for four-year
olds will be a regular Wed
nesday morning event at the
Forsyth County Library on
Maple Street, according to Mrs.
Jean Polts, librarian.
Mrs. Potts said parents will
be able to register their
youngsters for the story
sessions Wednesday at 10:30
a.m. at the library.
Mrs. Charlotte Neville, a
former schoolteacher who is the
wife of school board Chairman
Richard Neville, will be the
regular storyteller. Mrs.
Neville said a time will be set
after she has talked to the
parents of the prospective
listeners.
Employers of DCT Students
Hosted at Annual Breakfast
Forsyth County High School’s
Diversified Cooperative
Training (DCT) students
served breakfast Saturday to
their employers and some of the
area’s leading citizens.
The breakfast, as usual,
featured DCT coordinator H.H.
Elrod’s home-cured ham.
The 51 boys and one girl in the
DCT handled all the
preparations, served the hearty
breakfast and then took care of
the cleaning up details.
After an invocation by DCT
chaplain Myron Milford, the
guests were welcomed by
Dennis Bailey, DCT president.
The morning diners then
heard remarks from Miss Billie
Highway Feat
The famed Alaskan Highway,
one of the most outstanding
feats in North American
history, just recently celebrated
its 30th anniversary.
The road, another ac
complishment by the Army’s
Corps of Engineers, was built
by 10,000 soldiers and 6,000
civilians in a six-month period.
This is just one of the Corps of
Engineers’ contributions to the
United States.
Its members also built the
Panama Canal. They are
responsible for the nation’s
waterways and their effective
control of the network of dams

special children at Ducktown

former DCT student at FCHS
who is now an employer in
Gumming.
The students gave an ap
preciation award to their
coordinator and additional
remarks came from County
School Supt. Robert B. Otwell,
one of the honored guests at the
breakfast.
The breakfast was adjourned
by Tony Reid, DCT club advisor
and the students then whipped
the high school cafeteria back
into shape in short order.

College sophomores can join
the Army ROTC program in
their junior year even if they
have no prior Military Science
instruction. Those interested
apply to the professors of
military science on their
campuses. If accepted, they
attend a six-week Basic Camp,
during the summer between
their soph and junior years. If
they successfully complete the
camp, they join the ROTC
Advanced Course as juniors.
