Natural Southern Dinner Item
I Don’t Wait for Summer
ITo Eat Corn-on-the-Cob
- : Don’t wait for summertime to
have honest to goodness picnic
fare such as butter drenched
golden ears of com-on-the-cob,
baked beans and southern fried
chicken.
Everyone is a kid at heart
when it comes to a picnic, so
why not treat the family to one
* tonight? Or you can plan a hobo,
theme party for your friends
i and invite them to wear
checkered shirts and bib
overalls. Multicolored tin or
paper plates add to the
festivities.
The star attraction of your
picnic menu is the heaping
platter of com-on-the-cob. The
tender golden ears of sweet com
are picked and super-fast frozen
just as they reach their milk

Dieting Not So Bad—Try Turkey
Weighing all sides of the
question, it’s smart to start now
to take off excess weight, not
only the pounds gained during
the holidays (which should be
shed before becoming ac
customed to them), but also the
longer-endured pounds that
may need a little harder jarring
to break loose.
Despite the claims of
dramatic diets, the only real
trick to losing weight is simply
to eat fewer calories.
Before starting any reducing
diet, put it to the following test
to determine how wise, how
lasting, and how healthful it will
be. If you can’t answer “yes” to
each of the questions, you’re on
the wrong track. Chuck that diet
and find something more
Hot Meals Always “Right”
As everyone who is into snow
sports knows, part of the joy of
winter activities is coming to a
warm house and a hot meal. Of
course it takes a good helping of
hearty food to satisfy the huge
appetites that come from
skiing, snowmobiling or just
hiking. And for this special
hunger—whether brunch, lunch
or supper time—The R. T.
French Company’s Test Kit
chens in Rochester, N.Y., have
created this recipe for Savory
Quiche Loaves, a tasty and
nourishing dish guaranteed to
restore flagging energies.
Innovative and easy-to-fix,
the Loaves are a high protein
combination of eggs, milk and
cheese. Instead of the
traditional crust, the custard
mixture sparked with peppy
prepared yellow mustard, is
baked in hollowed-out shells of
French bread. And by

The Chattahoochee River
is cleaner this year.
Thanks to electricity.
About 2,600 tons of solids and chemicals were re
moved from Atlanta’s drinking water in 1972 by
the Chattahoochee* Water Treatment Plant. But un
til last year, the only way to dispose of those solids
was to return them to the river.
Then the Settled Solids Facility began operation.
Using electric equipment, the facility dewaters the
sludge first by treatment with lime, then by pres
sure filtration. The result is a dry, sterile cake which
is suitable for landfill. The water removed contains
lime and alum, which can then be reused in further
water treatment.
The Chattahoochee Settled Solids Facility is the
first of its kind in the country. It saves water treat
ment chemicals, millions of gallons of filtrate water,
and keeps the Chattahoochee a whole lot cleaner. It’s
one example of how electricity conserves resources,
aids recycling and helps clean our environment.

1. Could I follow this diet the
rest of my life?
2. Does it provide for three
satisfying and regular meals
each day?
3. Does it include a wide
choice of foods, including lean
meat, poultry, fish, eggs, milk,
vegetables, fruits, enriched or
whole grain cereals?
4. Is it built around familiar
and well-liked foods that are
within the budget?
5. Is the caloric value low
enough to cause weight loss?
6. Does it eliminate all
“empty” calories—i.e., foods
that have no food value?
One of the dandiest dishes
you’ll ever find to include in a
weight-reduction diet is Turkey
