Merritt - Ainslie Wedding Held
On the afternoon of December
29, 1972, at 3 p.m., Carolyn
Merritt and Andrew Ainslie, Jr.
were married at the home of
Mrs. Ruby Deen Crider in
Cumming. The Reverend Roger
Williams of Cumming Baptist
Church performed the double
ring ceremony.
An improvised altar was
formed in a doorway which was
outlined with pine garland.
The altar was flanked on each
side by spiraled candlabra and
framed by large baskets of
mums, glads and pots of fern.
The nuptial music was played
by Miss Susan Mashburn on a
75-year-old pump organ. Mrs.
Perry Youngblood, aunt of the -
bride, sang “The Wedding
Prayer.”
Andrew Ainslie, Sr., was his
son’s best man. The altar
candles were lit by Richard
Webb, nephew of the bride.
The bride was given in
marriage by her father, Cecil
Merritt.
The bride wore a dress of
ivory muslin with embroidered
face Juliet sleeves and mat
ching lace covered bodice and
lace ruffle attached to the floor
length A-line skirt. The man
darin collar was accented by a
cameo broach which belonged
to the bride’s aunt, Mrs. Ruby
Deen Crider. The candlelight
ivory veil of illusion lace was
attached to a headpiece of seed
pearls and satin ribbons.
The bride’s bouquet featured
two gold throated orchids which
were grown for the bride by
Mrs. Louise Mashburn.
Surrounding the orchids were
gold sweetheart roses, baby’s
breath, and greenery. Ivory
ribbons cascaded from the
bouquet with roses tied on the
ends by love knots.
The matron of honor was Mrs.
Joel Webb, sister-in-law of the
bride. She wore an emerald
green, floor length knit dress
accented with ecru lace at the
collar and cuffs. The dress was
styled similar to the bride’s
dress. Mrs. Webb’s bouquet
featured gold and bronze mums
with gold ribbon streamers.
The bride’s mother chose for
her daughter’s wedding a pink
shantung dress with beaded
collar and matching coat. She
wore a corsage of pink
sweetheart roses.
The groom’s mother chose a
navy and white knit dress with
matching red coat. She wore a
corsage of white sweetheart
roses.
The cake was served by Miss
lx>is Green who was assisted by
Mrs. Phil Estes and Mrs.
