EXPERTS CALLED IN
Sheriffs Radios: Study of ‘Blinkmanship’
This past week was another
one that was both interesting
and quite different. We held our
regular meeting lasting some
two and one-half hours with
practically total agreement
among all the commissioners.
Much was taken up with
probably the most difficult
problem to solve still in limbo.
This involves radios for our
Sheriff Department and other
County Officials. We now have
some fifteen two-way radios
using both high and low band
frequencies. None seem to be
working properly so we are in
the process of attempting to do
what is reasonable in order to
correct. Most of us have taken
the position that it’s not very
good to continue to purchase
expensive radios that won’t
work. We do have the state’s top
radio experts working on this
matter.
Comm. Lawton Sosebee and
myself have also been ap
pointed as a committee to check
into the advisability of the
county commission getting
involved with financing a

The
Living
Way
By Roger Williams
The Bestseller
It’s interesting to note that in
1972, among the National
Religious Bestsellers, the
Living Bible was the number
one bestseller. Among other
things this says that people are
hungry for an understandable,
readable Bible. People are
hungry to hear God’s word and
if it’s made available and
readable, many people will take
the time to read it.
This ought to say something
to Christians who want to
communicate their faith. We’ve
got to say it so that folks can
understand it. Simply because
we understand the words we
use, and all the crowd we know
understands what we’re saying
doesn’t mean that everyone else
will understand us. It may just
be that the little group we run
with is the only group that
understands us.
If that’s the case then we need
to be searching for ways to
improve our communication.
There’s nothing sacred about a
particular method of doing and
saying things. If the method no
longer works, if the words no
longer get the message across,
we are duty bound to find new
and better ways. So it is with the
1974 Chevrolet
A better-than-ever way.

program. We are making a
detailed study into this situation
and will try and be fair to all our
people. The $1,600 per child cost
each year has me bothered as it
is more than three times the
cost of educating a child. I
further have my doubts as to
our Commission getting into
other strange fields when we
are unable to begin to take care
of all your other established
needs such as roads, welfare,
health, police protection and
many others. Please let us hear
from you people who will be
footing these additional costs.
Commissioners Herman

It was well worthwhile and we

by having attended. Comm.

interesting and worthwhile

Living Bible. More people are
reading the Bible more often
and that’s a good thing. And
from a technical aspect, it’s a
good rendering of the scrip
tures.
A lot of people who know far
more about the Bible than any
of us have painstakingly
translated the scriptures and
parapharased them into un
derstandable, readable ter
minology that people use today.
This is a never ending task
because speech patterns, word
usage and everyday idioms are
always changing.
When is the last time you
heard “thee, thine, or knowest”
used in everyday language?
That was fine for England in the
1600’s but by the mid 1700’s no
one talked like that anymore,
even England. Remember
too, that when the King James
version came out in 1611, it was
hooted at, persecuted, burned
and ridiculed just as newer
translations and versions have
been in recent years.
God’s word is going to abide
and he will see that it is
properly cared for. The test of
time and use will determine
what he intends to do with them.
Let’s let him decide.

Comm. Sosebee and myself had

we understand that the En

Our regular Gripe Session

Having missed the past

important requests and reports

rather unusual and you never
know what to expect. Our

might not be in agreement.
The D. O. T. is now off Dead
Center and moving forward in
Forsyth County. We received a
very detailed report regarding
highway safety for this county.
As soon as it is presented to the
full county Commission, I would
like to release it to the news and
radio media. It is specific and
very inclusive and complies
with our special request made
some time ago. We appreciate it
and so will notify the safety
department of the D. 0. T.
There is good news for you
people living on Drew Road. We
have finally received a
notification that a contract was
approved for paving the 9-10
mile of road leading to the
Cherokee county line. This has
been our number one priority
road since back in March. We
won’t be able to let the contract
this year due to paving season
acitivities for Georgia’s Official
Clean-up Days on November 2
and 3 which is being sponsored
by the Georgia Conservancy
and the Garden Club of Georgia.
A native of Marietta, Mr.
Dorsey was graduated from the
University of Georgia and is
associated with many civic and
honorary organizations.

With the contract in hand, this
should be our first road to pave
in the Spring. A rushed up cost
study for both the Old Buford
Road and the Dr. Bramblett
Road is being made and we
should be hearing from them in
the very near future. When we
receive these contracts from
the state, this will complete the
full Committments made to us
back in March by the D. 0. T.
We will appreciate this and will
express the necessary thanks to
the D. 0. T.
I am sorry to have offended
some few of you people reading
this column. All I have tried to
do is to give you an up to date
report each week of our ac
tivities. Most of you have ex
pressed your appreciation for
our efforts and we thank you.
We would ask you people who
would prefer to not know what is
going on in your county
government, to just ignore the
entire column and not read it.
This would solve your problems
and you could be like an ostrich.
It’s your right and I will always
want you to have your rights but
not at the costs of excluding
others from their rights.
Again allow me to ask you to
continue to give me your
opinions.

campaign consists of volunteers
from civic, military, school

all working together to pick up

This is in addition to millions of
dollars spent by local govern
