Sprucing up clothing and
changing its entire character
can be achieved by dyeing.
There are certain things you
should know, however, before
attempting to dye any item.
Natural fibers, unless treated
with a finish are very ab
sorptive. They are easy to dye
and retain the dye very well.
Dyeing a fabric which has had
a permanent press, water or
stain repellent finish will prove
to be unsatisfactory. The dye
will penetrate ony in the areas
where the finish has worn off.
Therefore the dye penetration
would be uneven.
Manmade fibers, because of
their composition, cannot
absorb dye. At best they can
only be expected to hold the

this characteristic, home-dyed

There is another phenomenon
about home dying. Each fiber
absorbs the dye differently
and comes out a different

Being Shot At Athens, Ga.
There’ll be a lot of “shooting”
going on in Athens, Georgia,
this week when a half dozen
movie cameras roll into action
in the first week of production
on the motion picture “Poor
Pretty Eddie”.
Starring Leslie Uggams,
Shelly Winters, Michael
Christian, Ted Cassidy, Slim
Pickens and Lou Joffred, the
Hollywood cast began arriving
in Atlanta last Friday in
preparation.
“Poor Pretty Eddie”, the
first of three feature films to be
released by Modern Films of
Georgia, Inc., a Michael Thevis
Enterprise, is budgeted just
under sl-million.
Producing and directing the
picture is Hollywood film
maker, Richard Robinson. At
age 27, Richard (Rick) has
bypassed many filmmakers in
the industry through his in
novative filming techniques,
quaity production and sheer
determination... three factors
which enabled him to produce
both “White Justice” and “To
Hell You Preach” as well as the
award winning “For Fun and
Profit” at the 1971 Amsterdam
ilm Festival.
Known for his polished, fast
paced and artistic style of
another, and the straps a third
shade. In some cases the
blending of shades might be
desirable. In other cases this
might be a terrible effect.
On fabrics that have a
combinatioif of fibers, for
example cotton crosswise
yarns and polyester lengthwise
yarns, the difference in color
absorption might be quite
noticeable. In blends, where
two fibers are spun together in
a yarn, the difference in dye
absorption might not be
noticeable, but the overall
effect might be mottled.
These are just a few factors
of which you should be aware in
home dyeing. One final word—
if you have dyed your garments
in your washing machine, be
sure to run the empty machine
through another cycle to be
sure all dye has been washed
away. Washing garments in an
unrinsed tub could be un
fortunate.

scenes on film. As Los Angeles
Herald Examiner columnist
James Bacon commented
“These young, independent
filmmakers like Robinson may
have the answers to
Hollywood’s woes”.
“Poor Pretty Eddie”, written'
by B.W. Sandefur, stars Leslie
Uggams as a young black
singer traveling through
Georgia on her way to a concert
performance who, due to car
trouble, must seek refuge at
Bertha’s Oasis, a far-removed
motel on a desolate country
road. The superb acting cast of
Shelly Winters, Michael
Christian, Slim Pickens, Ted
Cassidy and Lou Joffred com
plete the tale of terror and
triumph that ensues at Bertha’s
Oasis.
The action all takes place on
location in Athens, just five
miles from the University of
Georgia college campus.
Modern Films of Georgia has
contracted the use of a
Cinemobile Unit, a huge two
story vehicle used to transport
all equipment, cast and crew
from each location site.

preventing further injury, and
treatment for shock.
It is also important to avoid
panic, inspire confidence, and
do no more than necessary until
professional help arrives.
