VACATIONERS RETURNED
Just returned from a seven day trip to Geneva, Switzerland
are Jerry and Martha Anglin of Cumming. They are shown
here reviewing their schedule, which included tours of the
United Nations Peace Palace and other Geneva attractions.
They also went by cable car to Charmonis, France and saw a
view of Swiss, French and Italian Alps. The trip was sponsored
by Modern Maid Appliances through West Building Material of
Cumming.

Mr. and Mrs. Frankie
McNeal of Route 1,
Gainesville, announce the
birth of a son, Bobby Frank
born November 2 at Forsyth
County Hospital.
Mrs. McNeal is the former
Sandra Hannah Garrett,
daughter of Oscar Garrett,
Cumming.
Paternal grandmother is
Mrs. Fred McNeal of
Gainesville.

for November 24 at 2 p.m. All
friends and relatives are
invited.
90th Birthday
Mrs. Ethel Stephens Tallant
will observe her 90th birthday
November 19.
She is the widow of the late
Ben Tallant of Forsyth
County. They resided in
Forsyth County 40 years.
She is in fair health and
lives with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Merlin Price in Mabelton,
Georgia.
Lanier Junior Miss
Pageant Is Saturday
The pageant week is finally
here. There are 17 lovely
young ladies competing for
the title of Lanier Junior
Miss. The exciting night will
be Saturday at 7:30 p.m., at
the Forsyth County High
School Gymnasium.
The girls are judged in five
different categories. There
will be two different judgings.
A group of scholastic judges
to review the girl’s high
school grades and
achievements, apd another
group of judges for the four
categories which will be
judged at the pageant.
The scholastic judges are:
—Jan Campbell, who is an
assistant superviosr of in
struction in Office and Career
Education in the DeKalb
County Schools. She received
a B.S. in Business Education
at the University of Wisconsin
at Whitewater and a M.A. in
Business Education at
Georgia State University. She
is presently doing advanced
graduate work at the
University of Georgia and is
President-Elect of the
Georgia Business Education
Association, District IV. She
and her husband, Dick, make
their home at Green Acres in
Loganville, Georgia.
—Dr. Lawrence J. Sorohan
is an Associate Professor at
North Georgia College. He
previously served as Director
of Graduate Studies, School of
Education, University of
North Carolina at Greenboro.
A native of Ohio, he received
his M.Ed. and Ph. D. from
Ohio University in Athens,
Ohio. Dr. Sorohan has had
several publications and has
been involved in other writing
activities. He and his wife,
Sallie are parents of three
sons.
The pageant judges are as
follows:
—Dr. Kenneth W.
Baumgardner lives in
Gainesville and has been
associated with Brenau
College for 11 years. He is
presently Director of Records
at Brenau where for nine
years he was Chairman of the
Department of Music and an
instructor in voice, theory,
and music appreciation. Dr.
Baumgardner has many
years experience as a
professional singer and has
conducted the Brenau College
Wind Ensemble. He is
married and the father of
three children.
—Linda Belcher, a member
of Old National Jaycettes
since 1968, is presently ser
ving as State Jacyette First
Vice-President. She has held
many offices including
president on both the local
and region levels. She was
named “Outstanding
Jaycette” in Division I and
received the regional
Presidential Award of Honor.
She is a lab technician and is

church affairs in College Park
where she and her husband,
Chuck, reside with their two
children.
—Marilyn Olley, Miss
Georgia 1969, has worked in
four areas of pageants:
contestant, emcee, special
entertainment, and judge.
She won the title Miss Cobb
County in 1968 and was a
contestant in the Miss
America Pageant in 1969 after
being selected Miss Georgia.
Miss Olley was named
“Outstanding Young Woman
in Smyrna 1972”. She
presently is employed by
Relfections Gallery of Art in
Atlanta and attended Ken
nesaw Jr. College.
—Gene Phillips of Atlanta is
employed with the Governor’s
State Manpower Planning
Council. He received a B.S.
Degree in Math and English
from the University of
Southern Mississippi and lat
er a Master of Science
in Management from the
University of Utah. He is an
active Marietta Jaycee and
has received many awards
and has served as State
Director. Phillips has judged
various pageants including
the Tennessee State Jr. Miss

They Received Georgia Planter Degree at State FFA Rally
Forsyth FFA Boys
Attend State Rally
Three members from the
Forsyth County FFA Chapter
attended the state FFA
Rally in Macon, Oct. 27.
Those attending were’: Gary
Akins, Tommy Samples, and
Wendell Bagwell. They were
accompanied by their FFA
advisor, Charles Edwards.
Only two-percent of the
membership from each
chapter can earn this highest
state FFA Degree. To earn
this degree a boy must earn at
least SSOO from his projects.
At the Rally, Tommy
Samples and Wendall
Bagwell received the Georgia
in 1970 and 1973, and he is now
serving as schedule co
ordinator for Miss Cobb
County.
—John R. Stephens, Jr.
received an A.B. in Jour
nalism degree from the
University of Georgia. Upon
completion of four years
service in the United States
Air Force, he returned to the
University where he has held
several positions with the
Office of Public Relations and
the School of Journalism. He
is now Supervisor of
Operations at the Instruc
tional Resources Center.
Stephens is past Vice-
President of the Georgia
Jaycees and currently serves
as a National Director. He
and his wife, Carole, are the
parents of one child.
Guest entertainment for the
evening will by Cynthia Cook
Robinson, former Miss
Georgia, and Miss Cobb
County. Cynthia will also be
serving as Emcee for the
pageant.
The Forsyth County
Jaycees and Jaycettes want
to cordially invite everyone to
the Lanier Junior Miss
Pageant, for a very wor
thwhile and entertaining
evening of events.
Planter Degree. Tommy
Samples projects consisted of
corn, beef cattle, and hogs.
Wendell Bagwell’s projects
consisted of hogs, beef, cattle,
jjnd corn.
v These two boys should be
congratulated for earning the
highest degree in the state
association of FFA.
