Back
When
The following items were
taken from the June 29, 1944
edition of the Forsyth County
News.
Clifton W. Brannon of
Toccoa candidate for
Congress, spoke at an old
fashioned political rally at the
Forsyth County Courthouse
July 1. He was accompanied
by the Brannon Singers, Jim
Waits, of the Lefevre Trio,
Hovie Lister and the Sisk
Trio.
“The board of registers will
meet June 26 to purge the
voters list of Tax Defaulters.
All men who are behind for
1943 or any previous year will
be marked off the list.
All women who owe a Poll
Tax for 1940 will be put back
on the list when the same is
paid, (signed) T.P. Thomas,
M.A. Smith, A.C. Benson,
registrars.”
“Holding that public listing
of the names of service men
applying for ballots might
“prove highly dangerous to
the armed forces”, Secretary
of War Stimson has informed
Secretary of State John B.
Wilson, who is secretary of
State War Ballot Commission,
that it should be avoided.”
“The Friends of Rev. W. L.
Jolley will regret to learn of
his death which occurred
recently. He was a former

Charge here. He died while
serving the Lakewood
Heights Methodist Church.
“Miss Louise Mathis, only
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Grady Mathis of Cumming,

wore Navy blue with white
accessories.”

Sunday morning. He was 85
years of age and one of
Forsyth County’s oldest and
beloved citizens. He has
always been a faithful sub
scriber to the Forsyth County
News and has always kept his
subscription paid up to date.”
“On June 11th the following
telegram was received by Mr.
and Mrs. A. R. Bramlett:
Washington, D.C. The
Secretary of State wishes me
to express to you his deepest
regret on the death of your
son, Staff Sergeant Hugh D.
Bramlett, which occurred on
June 8 in the British West
Indies: cause accidental.
“The local Rationing Board
has just received a telegram
from E.A. Thornhill, State
Director of All Retail Mer
chants, must file with the
Local War Price and
Rationing Board all Price
lists of cost of living com
modities by July 1, L. E.
Moore, chairman.”
From the June 24, 1954
News:
“Bobby R. Bagley, having
successfully completed his
Jet Pilot Training at Williams
AFB, Chandler, Ariz.,
graduated Thursday, June 10,
at which time he received his
wings and bars as a second
lieutenant in the U.S. Air
Force. Bobby graduated from
Cumming High School in 1950
and entered Piedmont College
that fall and completed two
years there. During this time
he was in the Naval Reserve.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
