TROOP 39
Scouts Camp In High Land
Three Cumming Boy Scout
leaders and 22 members of
Troop 39 are camping in the
foothills of the Rayburn
County Mountains at Camp
Rainey Mountain, Northeast
Georgia Council Boy Scout
Camp.
Richard DeWitt, Scout
master, and his two
assistants, Ken Wilkie and
Curtis McWilliams, are
spending two days each at
Mowaga Camp, where the
local boys are located.
The camp consists of 360
acres bordering National
Forestry Land and has a 14
acre lake. Camping and
handcraft skills are taught,
along with swimming and
water front safety. Trips into
the mountain and canoeing
trips are popular features.
The attendance is the
largest that Cumming has
had at the annual summer
camp. Wednesday evening
was parents’ night and a
number of families were
there for dinner and for the
ceremonial campfire which
closed the evening.
Immediately after the
Troop returns here four
members will go to
Dahlonega for Forest Ranger
Camp, a facility sponsored by
National Rangers for older

Landusers
Named
Local Soil Conservation
Service technicians have
checked the fields on which
landusers will will establish
permanent vegetative cover
under the 1974 Rural
Environmental Conservation
Program.
These landusers are Jimmy
Mathis, Lewis Crow, A.W.
Luckett, E.H. Sherrill, Gene
A. Mauldin, Steve Benson,
Hoke Parks, Brice Bennett,
Dr. Marcus Mashbum Jr. and
Roy G. Holtzclaw.
The purpose in establishing
a permanent vegetative cover
is to protect the soil, prevent
erosion and prevent or reduce
pollution of water, air or land.
On these fields the SCS
technicians checked the type
of soils, the amount of erosion
and whether the field could be
classified as cropland.
These landusers hope to
cost-share with the Forsyth
County ASC Committee in
establishing the vegetative
cover.
SCS technicians have
completed the checkout on the
Bob Slack dam south of
Cumming.
A field survey has been
completed for a dam on the
lands of Ivan Orr by SCS
technicians.
DOT and SCS personnel
recently measured the
roadblock cutslopes that need
a vegetative cover on all State
roads in Forsyth County.
