Their 31 year old son,
Walter Thomas Allanson, was
arrested at his farm near
Zebulon and charged with the
shotgun slaying of his
parents.
When police arrived at the
Allanson home they found
Mrs. Allanson lying on the
basement steps, apparently
gunned down by a shotgun
blast. The father was found in
a cubbyhole in the basement
under some boxes. Allanson
had been hit in the face and
stomach with shotgun blasts
and Mrs. Allanson was shot in
the chest, police revealed.
Allanson was a candidate
for Fulton County Criminal
Court judge in the upcoming
Aug. 13 primary.
Detectives said they have
not been able to establish a
motive for the slayings,
however, relatives said there
apparently existed a long
standing family squabble
between the parents and their
son.
The couple had been am
bushed a week earlier while
on their way to their cabin on
Lake Lanier.

BIG TURNIP—Mrs. Evelyn Phillips, 734 Atlanta Road,
Cumming, shows off her 2% lb. turnip she gathered out of her
backyard garden recently. Mrs. Phillips said it is most unusual
for a purple top turnip to grow this big. When asked what she
plans to do with the vegetable, she answered, “I don’t know.
Maybe we’ll feed the whole family!”

SHOULD YOU
PEOPLE KNOW?
By J. LANIER
BANNISTER
Should you know a Candidate offering for
office stands for? Should you be expected to
blindly vote for a person because he wants the
office? I don't think so. I am offering you a
complete Platform to consider before asking
for your support. I would hope that your support
in my bid for Re-election would be based on
your approval of my platform. My Platform is
as follows:
I— CURB LAND SPECULATORS TO SAVE
OUR HOMES
2.— Use Zoning to Improve County-Not Select
Few.
3 GIVE ALL PEOPLE VOICE IN LOCATING
COURTHOUSE.
4 Improve Law Enforcement.
5 Practical Economy in Operating County.
6 Keep Public Informed about County
Operation.
7NO SECRET COMMISSION MEETINGS.
8— Improve and Use Balanced Budget.
S9—ADVERTISE AND USE BIDS IN COUNTY
PURCHASING.
10 —Involve Interested Citizens in Government.
II — No Conflict of Interest on my Part.
12— IMPROVE TAX STRUCTURE FOR
COUNTY.
Would each of you carefully read this listed
platform? Please let me know if it meets with
your approval. Let me have your ideas
regarding each plan in the platform and
suggestions as to improving it. For you people
who know me, You know that I am serious
about this and will do all within my power to
carry it out. It will take the help of all Honest,
Decent, Upright Christian, Citizens of this
county to carry this out. If I am elected, based
on this Platform, it would be almost com
pulsary that the other Commissioners work
with me or get out of office and allow you to
elect those who would.
I hope that each of you read MACHINE GUN
EDDIES', and his Pals, Letter to the Editor in
the past weeks News. It was rather Funny even
though Comm. Watson took it serious and got
rather upset over it. For you who don't know
Machine-Gun Eddie, he is the On-Again Off-
Again Deputy who wanted to sell the county
some Machine Guns awhile back and which we
declined to buy. He also managed to tear up a
few good cars for the county while serving us. I
would say that this knowledge of good Law
Enforcement is about as good as their
knowledge of when to vote on this Constitutional
Ammendment. It isn't in the August Primary
but will be in the November General Election
when all Constitutional Ammendments are
decided.
Lets' move on to something that is really
serious and no joke. This involves our 1974 Tax
Digest and will affect us all. We have received
our State Dictated Auditors' Ratio Study and
its' a mess. If we follow this, Forsyth County
will have to raise our total taxabble Digest
some $56,512,530 over last years. This comes on
top of the $27,505,693 we were forced to raise in
1973. As one Commissioner, I'm opposed and
am ready to carry this matter to the highest
court in the land. Myu My contention is that no
one man in Georgia should be an absolute
Dictator and compell ever city and county in
this state to comply with his orders. This is the
situation that we now have where John Black
mon, the Revenue Commissioner, can compell
ever couty tp raise its' Digest to the figure he
and the State Auditor believes to be correct. In
Forsyth Counties case, we have been forced to
raise ours from $15,654,120 in 1966 to the Fan
tastic Sum of $153,110,293 in 1974. This is some
$137,456,173 during the period.
I shall refuse to comply with this
Unreasonable demand from Revenue Com
missioners' Office and shall fight this matter in
court. All of you Over-Taxed Property owners
should support me in this struggle. The other
Commissioners MUST SUPPORT US in this
struggle. I have already written the three
Gainesville Repesentatives, Bill Williams, Joe
Wood and Doug Whitmire and asked them to
support us in this Fight. They have invited me
to request thier aid any time. THIS IS THE
MOST IMPORTANT TIME, as they helped
passed the Laws that we will have to fight. I feel
sure that they will testifgy that the Intent of the
Law that they helped passed wasn't to permit
one man to dictate to the 159 counties.
In our struggle against the state, regarding
this matter, we intend to prove that the sales
being used to determine our digest were almost
all Speculative in nature and not true sales. Ga.
Laws specify what is FAIR MARKET VALUE
and we intend to have a showdown on this issue.
We shall ask other counties and Commissions to
assist us.
In closing, let me again remind you that this
Tax Issue will decide if we will be allowed to
won a home in this county. PLEASE SUPPORT
US IN THIS FIGHT.
