Lake Board
Dr. Marcus Mashburn Jr.,
of Cumming has been
renamed to the board of the
Lake Lanier Island
Development Authority. The
authority is charged by the
state with the development
and operation of Lake Lanier
Islands, a public resort and
recreation area.
Wednesday, July 10, Gov.
Jimmy Carter announced a
SIO,OOO grant to the Island
Authority for advertising the
development, from his own
emergency funds.
The grant was announced
at a meeting in Gainesville,
which was a part of his
listening tour through the
state.

Troop 39, Boy Scouts of
America, sponsored by the
Cumming Kiwanis Club, held
its Court of Awards at the club
meeting Monday, July 8, at
the Pioneer Restaurant. Two
Eagle Scouts were awarded
Palms, Mark DeWitt, gold,
and Matthew Songer, bronze.
Reaching the rank of
Scouters were David
McCrosky, David E. Gamer,
Peter Estler and Nathan
Perkins. Promoted to Ten
derfoot were Paul Gravitt,
Bucky Garner, Bill
Siggelkow, Mike Stevens,
Mitch Camp, Mark Mullins,
Chris Ball and Stanley Redd.
Promoted to second class
were Scott Schwaemmle,
Glen McWilliams, Scott
Thornton, Bryan Todd and
Mark Weber.
Scott Schwaemmle was also
promoted to First Class, as
was Tim Vaughn.
Merit badges and awards
were presented to Jeff Scott,
Bryan Todd, John Amos, Ed
Sigglekow, Rex Gravitt, Ben
Black, David G. Garner,
Marc Hemmett, Scott Vaughn
and Joe Thornton.
R.R. DeWitt is Scoutmaster
and assistants are Ken Wilkie
and C.B. McWilliams. Rev.
Robert Bowling, Kiwanis
Club president, made the
awards.

badges above the requirement for an Eagle Scout at the annual awards night banquet at the
Pioneer Restaurant. Matthew Songer, received the Bronze Palm Leaf for five awards over

Annual All-Southern Rat
tlesnake and Copperhead
Hunt here July 20 and 21
beginning at 9 a.m.
According to Jaycee
President Dwight Norris,
snake hunters from
throughout the South are
invited to participate in the
annual event and vie for five
trophies, which will be
awarded to the hunters who
capture the largest and most
copperheads and rattlesnakes
and the rattlesnake with the
most rattles.
The Jaycees will provide
noose and clamp snake
hunting equipment to ex
