The second annual Lanier
Crafts and Country Fair will
be held Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at Heardmont, the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Heard, who sponsor the event.
In addition to providing a
market place for the local
artists and craftsman, the fair
provides money making food
booths for various
organizations.
The Heards have donated
space for the Forsyth County
Day Care Center and the
Training Center. Candlestick
and hand sewn articles made
by the handicapped will be
sold.
The Deercreek Shores
Presbyterian Church and
Kilough Baptist Church will
have food booths. The Forsyth
County Civil Defense will also
have a food booth, and
member will be in charge of
traffic control and guard
duties. A part of the Fair’s
sales commissions will go to
the Civil Defense Unit.
Among the local people who
will have booths are Mr. and
Mrs. Bass Farr, Jr., who
together make and frame
pictures from yarn and nails;
Charles Dingier, a college art
student; James DeSana,
whose craft is in woods; Raine
Padgett, prints and wood
work; and Dale Rossing,
leather work.
Mary Swofford will display
flower arranging and knitting
and Frank Tiller will have a
display of macrame.
Many of the craftsmen will
be at work on the scene to
display their artistry. More
than 150 artists and craftsmen
from 10 southern states have
been selected to provide a
wide variety of work.
Folk music to be presented
by Butch Evans will include
many of his own numbers,
which have been written about
the North Georgia area, in
cluding The Ballad of Big Bill
Cantrell, which he released on
tape last year, and Saw Mill
Field, Mary Alice Park and
Lovely Lake Lanier.
Mrs. Evans will sell
balloons at the fair.
A photographer will be
present to take pictures in
costume and pastel portraits
will be made on the soot.
Foods will include ham and
sausage, cooked on a wood
burning stove, homemade
specialties, candy apples and
