School Spells Shots
For Beginners
For thousands of Georgia
children September is just
another word for school. And
for kindergarten and first
graders, school spells shots.
"Under Georgia law all
kindergarten and first grade
children in the state must
have started their im
munizations within 120 days of
the beginning of the school
year,” says Huel Keown, chief
of the Department of Human
Resources immunization unit.

Holiday Bird Can Beat High Costs
By Mrs. Zelma R. Bannister
County Extension
Home Economist
If you’re looking for ways to
beat the high cost of meat,
think about buying a turkey.
The holiday bird can add a
festive touch to a ho-hum
menu.
To really pep up summer
meals, serve cold, lean turkey
in sandwiches or salads. Or
think about taking turkey
instead of ham to your next
picnic or that family reunion.
If cold turkey doesn’t head
your list of favorites, try this
recipe for oven barbecue. It’s
easy to prepare and scaled
down to serve six.
Barbecue Turkey
J /4 cup fat or oil
1-3 cup flour
2 teaspoons salt
*/4 teaspoon pepper
2 turkey leg quarters,
disjointed (about 1% pounds
each). 1-3 cup vinegar.
1-4 cup brown sugar, packed
*/4 cup sweet pickle relish
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
sauce
V* cup catsup
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
F. Heat fat in large baking
pan. Mix flour, salt and
pepper. Use flour mixture to
coat turkey. Put turkey into
baking pan, turn over once to
coat with fat. Bake until

SAFETY TIPS FOR KIDS

toys are coated with non-toxic
paint.
—See that all playthings are
