Dogs Win 11th Straight With
Win Over Buford Wolves
The Forsyth County
Bulldogs won their 11th
straight last week when they
defeated the Buford Wolves,
64-53 at the Forsyth County
gym.
Pushing their record to 16-
3 on the year the Buford win
did not come as easily as the
final score might indicate.
The Dogs appeared to
have things in hand early as
Ronny Bennett, Jeff Perry,
Monty Hammontree and
Steve Reece all combined to
give Forsyth a 9-2 lead after
only three minutes of the

her team gain the victory for the night.
Forsyth Girls Down Buford
Avenging One Point Loss
The Lady Bulldogs of For
syth County High pushed
their season record to 8-11
last week when they
defeated the Buford Lady
Wolves by the score of 67-60.
Earlier this year Forsyth
had fallen to Buford by one
point in Buford.
It looked like the Lady
Dogs were set to convincing
ly avenge their early season
loss as points by Stacy Ben
nett, Tracey Gossett and
Amy Cullen surged Forsyth
out in front early in the first
period, 7-2. Buford then took
control of the game and mov
ed within one at 9-8 but Lady
Bulldog Darla Sexton hit two
quick baskets to give For
syth a 13-8 lead. This was to
give the indication that it
was to be the local team’s
game.
But, Buford didn’t like that
idea and scored eight
unanswered points to go on
top at 16-13 with one minute
left in the quarter. Each
team managed one more
basket by the end of the
period which saw Buford
ahead, 18-15.
The second quarter saw
Forsyth continue to trail for
better than three and one
half minutes before Lady
Dog Dawn Brown hit both
ends of a one and one to tie
the game at 24 with 4:26 left
in the first half.
In this final 4.26 of the half
the lead changed hands no
less than six times. Forsyth
took the last lead with less
than one and one-half
minutes left in the half on a
basket by Cullen. Sexton and
Gossett added two more
unanswered baskets in the
final minute to give the Lady
Bulldogs a 35-30 lead at inter
mission.
Brown increased For
syth’s lead to seven points as
the third quarter began. The
Lady Dogs built their lead to
as many as 11 points and
held such a lead midway
through the quarter. But,
during the final minutes of
the quarter, Buford manag
ed to score seven
unanswered points before
Forsyth’s Donna McWhorter
hit for two to give the Lady
Dogs a 50-44 lead.
Buford, however, manag
ed to score once more before
the quarter’s end and trailed
by only four points at 50-46
going into the final stanza.
In the final quarter the
Lady Bulldogs managed to
hit only three of eight field
goal attempts but recorded
an 11 of 15 accuracy from the
free throw line.
This 17 point effort offset
Buford’s six field goal
first quarter. But, just as the
first three minutes had been
all Forsyth, the next four
and one-half minutes belong
ed to Buford as they took the
lead at 10-9.
Then Bulldog Scott
Durham entered the game
and hit to give Forsyth the
lead again at 11-10. Buford
then tied the game at 11 on a
free throw but as the buzzer
sounded for the quarter’s
end, Durham got off an 18
foot jumper to put the Dogs
ahead, 13-11.
The second quarter was
quarter plus two free throws
and the Lady Dogs gained
their eighth victory of the
season, 67-60.
FORSYTH: Tracey
Gossett 24, Darla Sexton 12,
Dawn Brown 12, Amy Cullen
8, Donna McWhorter 7, Stacy

one of excitement as the
score was either tied or

Buford, meanwhile, suf
fered a terrible shooting
quarter going four for 17
from the field. After three
quarters of play Forsyth had
begun to take charge of the
game and held an 11 point
lead at 48-37.
Bulldogs Joe Parker and
Chip Housley started the
scoring for Forsyth in the
final stanza as the Dogs con
tinued to increase their lead
to as many as 15 points at
one time.
For the quarter the hot
shooting of the Bulldogs fell
off only slightly as they hit
eight of 19 tries. Buford
spent most of their fourth
quarter at the charity line
where they were 10 of 15.
From the field Buford shot
a miserable three of 12 and
the Bulldogs claimed a 64-53
victory.
