thus giving Midway a 55-52
victory.

as Greg Gravitt led the way
with 13, Stan Bettis had 12,

[recreational activity. Clubs
are numerous throughout
•Georgia, the United States,
and even now in Canada,
England, West Germany,
[New Zealand and elsewhere.
[There are even a square
dance club at the U.S. Em
bassy in Iran before its re
lcent closing. It is estimated
Jhat there are now some six
million active square
dancers in this country, and
some 9,000 professional
callers. There are 82
Organized square dance
clubs in the greater Atlanta
area alone and 37 listed pro-

Has Officers
The Cumming Swim Team
had a meeting Monday, Jan.
28, to elect new officers for
.1980.
The elected officers for
1980 are as follows: Connie
Waller, president; Ronnie
Hauptmann, vice-president;
The swim team will be
practicing each Monday
night at Gainesville Junior
Collge from 6 p.m, to 8 p.m.

Carolyn Gravitt and Glenn

Classes Set
On Exercise
Cumming Recreation and
Parks Department is spon
soring tor the first time
classes in Men’s Physical
fitness.
Classes will begin on Tues
day, Feb. 12, and will be held
each Tuesday and Thursday
evening at 7 p.m., at the high
school field house. This will
be a contiiiual program and
fee is to be S2O, per month
which may be mailed to

period to gain a very con
vincing 98-58 victory.
For the Bank, Vickery’s 34
points were tops as Donnie
Castleberry tallied 27, Ran
dy Kohn 15, Nicky Gravitt 12,
Raleigh Phillips 8 and Alvin
Fowler 2.
Russ Wallace and John
Hall led Big Creek’s scoring
as each had 14 points, follow
ed by Steve Hall with 12,
Keith Moulder 8 and Tony
Frady6.
First place team CPI
fought off a determined
Strick’s team for three
quarters in the final game of
the night before coasting to a
74-56 win.
CPI led most of the game,
holding a 17-14 first quarter
lead, 35-30 at halftime and a
54-42 advantage after three
periods of play. CPI once
again offered a balanced
scoring attack as Steve
Evans recorded 15, Derry
Cochran and Loy Day 14
each, Rick Case 11, Wes Mit
chell 10, including four from
the charity stripe, Danny
Bennett 6 and Marvin Nix 4.
For Strick’s Pete Atkinson
had a game high 18 points,
Tim Martin 14, Terry
Strickland 10, Dennis Ander
son 8 and Travis Densmore

6 at the Otwell Middle School
are Bank of Cumming vs.
Mack’s at 6:30; CPI vs. Mid
way at 7:30; and Big Creek
vs. Strick’s at 8:30.

Scheduled square dancing
vacations are now organized
in North Georgia resorts,
such as Unicoi, Mountain Ci
ty, and Dillard, a short drive
from here, for a square dan
cing tours to such places as
Hawaii, Europe, and the
Caribbean.
Cumming and Forsyth
County have had a Western
Square Dance Club with a
professional instructor and
caller for the past seven
years and is now cooperating
with the local Parks and
Recreation Department in
sponsoring classes for begin
ners.
