Let's Go!
THE FORS YTH County High Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs
completed their 1979-80 regular season play last Saturday
night with two very impressive victories over the Vikings and
Lady Vikings from lakeside High of Atlanta.
The Lady Bulldogs finished the regular season with a .500
record, winning 11 and losing 11. The Lady Dogs appeared
this past weekend to have finally put it all together. Their win
last Friday against Cherokee was most impressive from a
defensive standpoint.
There are no superstars on the Lady Bulldog team and to
be successful they must put forth a total team effort. Such
was the case last weekend with as many as nine different
players seeing extensive action in the Lady Dogs final two
regular season games.
While shooting with less accuracy from the field than
either Cherokee or Lakeside, the Lady Dogs played a most
tenacious defense causing their opponents to commit more
than twice as many turnovers as they committed.
It is this defense that allowed the Lady Dogs to put up 10 ex
tra shots during each game. While the Lady Dogs had their
problems early this season, losing five straight before gain
ing their first win, they have bounced back and finished the
regular season with six consecutive wins.
Their ability to compliment each other is the key to the
Lady Dogs’ attack. Teamwork is what is responsible for their
success this year and this teamwork is what is needed for the
Lady Bulldogs to be winners in post season play.
Due to their six game winning streak, the Lady Dogs finish
ed the regular season in second place in 8-AAAA sub-region
south standings and were scheduled to play Chamblee, Tues
day, Feb. 12 at 8:30 p.m. at Peachtree High. After winning
that one the Lady Dogs will play the winner of Berkmar and
Peachtree game Thursday, Feb. 14 at 8:30 p.m.

THE BULLDOGS finished their regular season with a
tremendous 19-3 record, winning all 10 games at home this
season and finishing with 14 straight victories.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season firmly entrench
ed in first place of 8-AAAA sub-region south and are odds on
favorite to capture the sub-region tournament.
’ Based on regular season records, one would assume that
(he Bulldogs should have little trouble in the sub-region tour
nament, but as anyone knows who follows basketball at all,
tournament time is a brand new season that gives all the se
cond place teams a new life.
Being number one in a tournament has such benefits as
receiving a first round bye and being placed in the same
bracket pairings with the weaker teams.
* Just as important a factor, however, is that everyone in the
tournament has their sight set on beating “Number One”.
Such is the position the Bulldogs find themselves in when
they enter sub-region tournament play Friday, Feb. 15 at 7
p.m. at Peachtree High School in Atlanta.
■ The Dogs will play the winner of Peachtree and South
Gwinnett who play each other Wednesday.
The Bulldogs were in this “Number One” position for the
latter part of the regular season and are aware of the
pressures that come with the territory and should be primed
for the sub-region tournament.
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I for one am an
ticipating successful showings for both the Lady Bulldogs
and Bulldogs this week at Peachtree and have already plann
ed to go to Athens next week for the region tournament.

YOU WANT A LARGER WOOD & COAL BURNING
HEATER, FURNACE OR BOILER THAN A
RITEWAY?
MODEL 37
BASIC PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
To understand how the Model 37
operates, look at the appropriate diagram
and read the descriptions below.
The combustion flue shield (5) encloses
the Riteheat regulator and the magnetic
damper and provides preheating of primary
and secondary air. By simply setting the
temperature you want, a bi-metal coil
inside the Riteheat regulator (3) raises the
chain connected to the magnetic damper (7)
when heat is needed. Air travels below the
extra heavy cast iron grate bars (10) and
then upward into the fire through cast iron

THE FORSYTH COUNTY NEWS—WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 13,1980-1
If so, then you are out of luck! Riteway has been making
for over 40 years, and still makes, the largest wood and
coal burning heaters, furnaces and boilers on the market.
Our Riteway Model 37 wood and coal burning heater holds
7 1/2 cubic feet of firewood or 150 pounds of coal. That's
about twice the size of most large woodburners or
coalburners sold around here! It burns from 8 to 24 hours
on one load of wood, depending on the firing rate set on
the non-electric thermostatic controls, and for up to 36
hours on a load of coal.
Riteway was the first smoke-burning downdrafter made
in the U.S.A. It also heats your water, and runs your
baseboard or radiator hot water heating system, or con
nects to your forced-air or gravity-flow furnace, or can be
installed all by itself as a forced-air or gravity-flow furnace
or boiler. The heater costs only $550. The other options also
are not expensive. It proudly wears a U.L. safety tag.
We have six Model 37 Riteways that are unsold out of our
latest shipment. The next shipment is due in June. Don't
wait for a sale on Riteways! They never go on sale these
days! Riteway heaters, furnaces and boilers now are bet
ween six months and three years back-ordered, depending
on size and model.
draft louvres. Smoke is forced back
through the fire for extra burning, then
passes under the cast iron flue baffle (6) and
into the combustion flue area (2). Second
ary air enters’ into the combustion flue
through a series of mixing holes (4). A
direct draft damper (1) is provided for
bypassing the combustion flue when the
fuel door is opened.
Other features of the stove are the ash
pan (8), firebrick (12), left side shield with
integral tray for attachment of decorator
tiles (11), and bottom shield for minimizing
floor temperatures (9).
Lady Bulldogs
Down Vikings
Forsyth County High’s
Lady Bulldogs gained a very
important 8-AAAA sub
region win last Saturday
night with a 53-41 victory
over Lakeside High School.
As was the case the night
before against Cherokee
County, the Lady Dogs shot
very poorly from the field
hitting only 34 per cent of
their shots. However, For
syth’s scrapping defense
forced Lakeside into 23 tur
novers.
Going into the game the
Lady Dogs were in a must
win situation to place them
in a tie for second place in
the sub-region standings.
This tie assures the Lady
Dogs of being placed in dif
ferent bracket halves from
South Gwinnett, the only
sub-region team Forsyth has
been unable to beat this
season.
Forsyth lost to Lakeside
earlier this year at Lakeside
but took the lead early Satur
day night and never trailed
in the game. In the first
quarter the Lady Dogs
jumped out to a 7-2 lead on
points by Tracey Gossett and
Lynn Hammontree but were
ahead by only two points at
9-7 when the quarter ended.
Lady Dog Amy Cullen ex
tended Forsyth’s lead to 11-7
as second quarter action
began. A little later, Darla
Sexton widened the margin
to five at 14-9.
Stacy Bennett then gave
the Lady Dogs a seven point

lead on a short jumper.
Dawn Brown then added a
free throw to give her team
an eight point advantage and
it looked like the Lady Dogs
were on their way to an easy
win.
But, Lakeside put on a
drive and scored eight
unanswered points and
managed to tie the game just
before halftime at 21-21.
Just before the half
Gossett hit for two more of
her game high 17 points to
give Forsyth a 23-21 lead at
intermission.
As the third quarter began
and with the score 27-25, For
syth’s favor, Lady Bulldog
Tracey Hughes began a For
syth streak of eight con
secutive points which gave
the Lady Dogs a comfortable
lead that they maintained
the rest of the quarter. The
score after three quarters of
play was Forsyth 37 and
Lakeside 27.
Forsyth controlled the
final stanza and at one time
held a 12 point lead on a
basket by Ginger Orr.
Though Lakeside pulled to
within seven points late in
the game, Forsyth never lost
their cool and captured a
very important victory with
a 53m win.

Lynn Hammontree 7, Dawn
