FHA Observes
National Week
The second week in
February was a special
week for members of the
Otwell Middle School Future
Homemakers of America
(FHA).
The week was observed as
FHA and HERO Week, also
Vocational Education Week.
All across the country FHA
and HERO Chapters of
Future Homemakers of
America planned obser
vances focusing on the FHA
motto, “Toward New
Horizons.” This motto is a
challenge. It reminds
members that their con
tributions to home life today
will influence the kinds of
homes they have tomorrow;
that the family life of
members will influence the
community and the world.
Each year the Otwell
Chapter plans an activity for
each day of the week. Ac
tivities are planned which
will help each member
prepare for future respon
sibilities.
Sunday was designated as
Church Day. All members
were asked to attend the
church of their choice.
Denise Gill and Donna Gen
try wrote letters to the
pastors of churches in our
community asking them to
recognize the FHA members
in their church.
Monday was Community
Day. Four chapter members
visited The Place, taking
them bags and boxes of

clothing that had been
donated by the students and
faculty.
Tuesday was designated
as Publicity Day. Posters
and exhibits were placed
around the school. Morning
announcements reminded
all the students of the week’s
planned activities.
Wednesday was
celebrated as School Day.
FHA members honored their
teachers on this day by
preparing and serving
refreshments in the lounge.
A crossword puzzle entitled’
“Teachers Are,” decorated
the lounge wall.
Thursday was Family
Day, since it was also Valen
tine’s Day, members were
asked to spend some special
time with their family.
Fun Day was observed
Friday. The FHA sponsored
a student-faculty basketball
game. Fun was had by all
with the faculty winning 47 to
39. One technical foul was
called on the teachers for too
many players on the court.
The high scoring faculty
members were Coach Bob
Mason and Miss Donna
Hicks.
Saturday was Fund Day. A
Rock-A-Thon was held in the
Home Economics Depart
ment, with all the proceeds
going to the March of Dimes.
Ten students rocked from 9
a.m. to 7 p.m., raising over

Otwell FHA
Honors Week
The Forsyth County High
School Future Homemakers
of America (FHA) had a
very exciting and pro
sperous week during Feb. 10-
15, which was National Voca
tional Week in Georgia.
Monday was Publicity Day
and this was probably our
biggest day. Signs were plac
ed all over town, marquis
were lighted and radio spots
were formulated by
members of the organiza
tion.
Tuesday was Community
Day and we tried to help our
county by babysitting for the
Family and Children’s Ser
vices. The students gained
from this and the project
enabled us to serve.
Wednesday, was Send A
Valentine Day, and was ex
tremely successful. Each
student at FCHS was able to
send a Valentine to anyone
that they wished to in the
school.
Thursday morning
students received the Valen
tines during homeroom.
What a day for young roman
tics!
Thursday was Family Day
which meant a covered dish
supper for all members and
their families. However, due
to the snow, this activity had
to be postponed until March
6. We have planned for this
day a very enjoyable even
ing meal followed by a talent
show.
Friday, Fun Day, also had
to be postponed due to the
