Democrats Elect New Officers The Forsyth County Dem ocratic Party met Sept. 17 to elect new officers and take a position on political matters. Meeting in four separate caucuses, the Democrats chose nine committeemen for four-year terms, plus two new committeemen two al low for an increase in the number of registered voters. Party bylaws specify how many voters each commit teeman may represent. New party officers are: Chairperson, Horace Trammel. —First vice-chairperson, Virginia Clements. Second vice-chairper son, Lloyd Wright. Secretary, J. Lanier Bannister. The Democrats voted to support the nominees of the Democratic Party in the No Business From The Front said. The board bought the recorders to cut down on long lines at the polls dur ing the November general election. In other business, the board: —Appointed Harrington to check three proposals from insurance firms to carry the county insurance policies. Accepted a grant of $14,849 from the Georgia Mountains Area Planning and Development Commission to reno vate the Bethelview Community Center as a senior citizens’ center. The county will put up $1,650, or 10 percent of the cost. Decided to establish priorities for state assistance in road and bridge re pairs by Nov. 1. Directed the Forsyth-Cumming Planning Board to review a quirk in the zoning law which permits developers to build roads in subdivisions which are not up to specifications and never turn them over to the county for mainte nance. Property owners sign a letter to this effect when they buy their land, but still will be angry when their road is not maintained, chairman Barnett said. Authorized improvements to F.A.A. In his letter, Bannister said such a map would ensure both major parties would then be using the same map and would avoid possible litigation. Republican school board candidate Ron Wood lives in what the most recent state road map shows as the Cum ming district. Wood is run ning from the adjacent fifth district, though. Earlier maps dating back to the 1920 s show Wood is living in the fifth district.
