the first Norcross game last
Tuesday. Forsyth County
won the first game, 12-9 and
took the second game 6-1.
In the first game, Tracy

hind is left the scars of the
game. It takes the Univer
sity of Georgia maintenance
department until Monday
morning to simply clean the
area around the stadium!
They don’t actually clean
the stadium until Monday af
ternoon. You think that
throwing a McDonald’s
wrapper onto the highway is
litter? You must be joking,
litter is what you wade
through after a Georgia
game.
But...we all love it...
Now, to turn the tables
somewhat:
CUMMING The year is
1990 and the Forsyth County
Bulldogs finished their 1982
season with an 8-2 record.
They are looking to take the
state 8-AAAAA (quin-A)
championship this year. On
their schedule are teams
such as Clarke Central, Hen
derson, Warner Robins,
Griffin, Valdosta and arch
rival Big Creek. They
trounced Warner Robins the
week before in Warner Ro
bins, 36-3. Their coach?
Steve Bartkowski, who de
cided to go “hometown” af
ter the Falcons folded in
1982.
It is 6 hours before the 8
p.m. kickoff on this given
Friday in Cumming. Cum
ming was once the pleasant

The Forsyth County Bull
dogs offense totaled 327
yards total offense, the first
time the team has passed
the 300 mark since their
opening game against
Gilmer County.
The Bulldogs had ground
rushing for 253 yards with
Kelly Winter averaging 110
yards per game after five
games this year. Winter av
eraged over five yards per
carry Friday night against
Henderson.
Quarterback Mark Shirley
passed 14 times with five
completions for 74 yards and
one interception against the
Henderson Cougars. He car
ried eight times for 71 yards
and scored one touchdown.
It was Shirley’s fourth down
and 12 yard run that spurred
the Bulldogs on for their
third victory of the season.
Steve Rogers carried 11
times for 64 yards and was a
key to the Bulldog’s 13 first
downs. Rogers also had one
28-yard run called back due
to a penalty on the line.
The Bulldogs were penal
ized six times for a season
high of 80 yards on penalties.
In a doubleheader Thurs
day, Forsyth County lost its
first game of the fall season
in game two, 5-3. The Lady
Bulldogs won the first game,
5-1.
Kim Sleeper, Tracy
Hughes and Stacey Bennett
led the hit parade with three
singles each. Susan Croft
added two hits in the opening
game. Bennett again had
three hits in game two, as
Paula Nix and Laura Hicks
had two hits each.

ful alumni return for a few
good times before kickoff.
The “mountain people”
began arriving earlier in the
morning. The “mountain
people” are the fans that fill
up the huge grandstands
built on the side of Sawnee
Mountain in 1988. They
slowly hoist a confederate
flag, which is confused by
northerners as the Georgia
flag, and prepare for a few
good times.
By 5 p.m. the Cumming
Elementary School parking
lot is filled and Canton High
way is closed to help with
the parking problem. Trib
ble Gap Road was impassa
ble the night before. Chief
Gabe Dukas, since promoted
to Cumming Traffic Control
Chief is allowing people to
park alongside Georgia 400
and hike in for the ball
games. Don’t worry, it’s
only a 25-minute walk.
The stadium, rest her w
eary soul, is not only sold out
but general admission tick
ets were sold in June of the
previous year.
After the game, which
lasts about one hour and 10
minutes, it takes until mid
night for the fans to get out
of town. Behind they leave
destruction the after ef
fects of a herd of buffalo be
ing chased by Sitting Bull. A
litter problem? Don’t even
ask.
But...wouldn’t it be
great...

land Cox came in for a quar
terback sack that led to the
Couga: s punting away.
Marx Shirley carried to
the Cougar 37-yard line. He
then gave the ball to Steve
Rogers who ran to the Cou
gar 20 but a penalty returned
the ball to the Henderson 48-
yard line. Two incomplete
passes and a small gain saw
the Bulldogs on a fourth and
12 yards to go situation.
Shirley took the ball and
dropped into the pocket,
cocking to pass, he kept the
ball and ran for the first
down to the Cougar 15-yard
line.
After three unsuccessful
plays, Shirley faced a fourth
and seven situation. He
again chose to go for the
first down and fired a per
fect shot over the middle to
tight-end Tony Hemrick to
the Cougar three-yard line.
Shirley then carried over for
the score with :47 seconds
remaining in the game.
Yates kicked the extra point

“However, East Hall will

Coach Mason and Coach

team had done a good job
this year and were looking
