REYNOLDS STROLLS DOWN THE DOCK
...at Bald Ridge Marina
From the Front
sette, explained that night that the
scene to be shot on the boat is one of
the “most frightening” in the movie.
The part of the movie that takes
place inside the boat, minutes before
the outside scene, was previously
filmed at a studio in Atlanta.
According to Brossette, Reynolds,
who plays Sharky, a policeman, gets
two of his fingers cut off while in
side.
The locally-filmed fight scene atop
the boat involving Sharky will last
all of about one minute in the film,
said Ketcham.
As is suggested by this scene,
“Sharky’s Machine” will not be the
usual Burt Reynolds film the public
has become accustomed to ones
like “Smokey and the Bandit” and
“W.W. and the Dixie Dance Kings.”
“This is a real departure for Burt
Reynolds,” remarked Brossette.
“Amost everything (he’s done) dur
ing the last decade has been comedy
of one kind or another.”

Burt Reynolds
Brossette describes “Sharky’s
Machine” as “real brutal” and
“tough.”
“This is real heavy drama. A big
city policeman gets involved with a
high-powered international crime
syndicate,” he explained.
Brossette admits that what humor
the film has, Reynolds has brought
to it.
“Sharky’s Machine,” written by
Atlantan William Deihl, was first
called to Reynolds’ attention before
it every hit the stands as a book,
according to Brossette.
When Reynolds finally got hold of
the book, he found it “well written
and intriguing” and decided to turn
it into a movie, he continued.
Taking total control of the picture,
Reyonlds is serving not only as the
principal actor, but also as the direc
tor and executive producer, said
Brossette.
“Sharky’s Machine” will be the
third film Reynolds has directed, he
said, with the other two having been
“Gator” and “The End.”

Others to appear in the film with
Reynolds, said Brossette, are the
“well known European actor” Vitto
rio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles
Duming, Bemie Casey and Henry
Sylva.
Rachel Ward, “a total unknown,”
is performing as the leading lady,
added Brossette. She is a British
born model with this being her film
debut, he said.
None of these actors, however,
were at Bald Ridge with Reynolds
last week.
Though Reynolds and his “hand
picked” crew of 100 to 120 had ar
rived before dark, actual filming did
not begin till 11 p.m. and wasn’t
completed till about 5:30 a.m.
When Reynolds finally got the
scene the way he wanted it, the
production company’s 72-day shoot
schedule was at an end. All that
remained to be done was dismantle
the equipment, load up and move
out.
