Testimony Of Jesus
DEER CREEK SHORES
Presbyterian Church
One of the major chapters
of Revelation is chapter 19.
It presents Christ as the vic
torious King who is able to
triumph over all the powers
of evil and who is the loving
and faithful bridegroom of
the ideal church. In this
chapter, John was able to
see how glorious the angel’s
message to him was to the
point that John fell before
the angel to worship him.
But the angel said, "Don’t do
it! I am a fellow-servant like
you and your people. All
those who hold the testimony
of Jesus, worship God. For
the testimony of Jesus is the
spirit of prophecy.”
To me, this verse is a great
one because it says a great
deal about the basics and the
basis of proclaiming the Gos
pel. So allow me to share two
major points this morning:
1-What is the testimony of
Jesus? 2-In what way is it
the spirit of prophecy?
First, what is the testi
mony of Jesus? According to
most ancient languages, the
word “testimony” is the
word for "witness”. Even in
modern languages the two
words are closely related. To
testify means to tell of what
you witnessed. So testimony
means a revelation of some
thing you witnessed. A living
testimony means living
according to what you expe
rienced and witnessed. To
share a testimony means to
testify to what God has done
for you concerning a partic
ular matter.

Childlike Behavior
FIRST CHRISTIAN
CHURCH
During the next few
weeks, several of the
churches in the area will be
conducting their vacation
Bible School. There will be
children coming from all
over to fill class rooms, stain
their lips with grape drink
and come home with dried
glue on their fingers from
the crafts. But most impor
tant, coming home knowing
about the love of Jesus
Christ, and knowing Him in a
better and more meaningful
way.
As we watch these chil
dren, we laugh, cry, are frus
trated, puzzled, and excited.
In Matt. 18, Jesus was with
the children and said of them
“whosoever therefore shall
humble himself as this little
child, the same is greatest in
the Kingdom of heaven.”
They were so open, eager,
unpretentious, and trustful

Therefore, the testimony
of Christ can mean three
things: 1-The example of
Christ, who was a living wit
ness, a living testimony of
everything God wanted to
say or do. 2-The teachings of
Christ, as he testified to
God’s truth. His teachings
and preachings were his tes
timony. 3-The belief in
Christ, the testimony we
have concerning the Person
of Jesus Christ.
Another word in the same
verse should also be ex
plained, the word prophecy.
The verse says, “The testi
mony of Jesus is the spirit of
prophecy.” Prophecy is a
word that is easily misunder
stood. The original meaning
of the word is to reveal a
mystery, concerning past,
present, or future messages.
It does not necessarily mean
to tell about things that will
happen. It simply means to
proclaim, to interpret, and to
share the news of God’s sal
vation.
So, if you want to read the
verse according to this
meaning it will read like
this: “The living example
that Jesus has of the life of
God that was in him is the
heart of proclaiming the
Gospel. “The testimony of
Jesus is the Spirit of Proph
ecy.” The testimony of Jesus
includes: 1-A manifestation
of God. 2-It includes a reve
lation of his purity and love.
3-It includes the teachings of
his divine principles.
(Part II continued next
week.)
and Jesus praised them for
their childlikeness. But He
had another view of children
in Luke 7:31, 32. He said of
people then, that they were
like children in the market
place who cried out, "We
have piped unto you and you
have not danced, we have
mourned to you, and you
have not wept.” Jesus saw in
these children that they were
spoiled and throwing their
tantrums because they were
not getting their way. Can’t
we see these same attitudes
even in adults to day? It’s all
right for a six year old to
prefer a world of make be
lieve to a world of reality,
but when the practice is car
ried over into adult life, it
becomes a thing “too pa
thetic to be a joke.” The
openness and simplicity of
childlikeness has now be
come fickle, selfish, and
stubborn childishness at
it’s worst.
You see, there is a great
difference in the “childlike
ness” that Jesus called us to
possess and the “childish
ness” that too many of us
show. Which of these atti
tudes do you think Jesus sees
in you?

Christian, how much do
you know of God’s Word? I
said “of God’s Word” not
“about” God’s Word.
Nationwide testing reveals
our population knows less
and less of God’s Word each
year. Very few people can
name all four gospels or the
first five books of the Bible.
Could you correctly name
half of Jesus’ disciples? How
many of the 10 command
ments could you recall?
More importantly, could you
show someone how to be
come a Christian using your
own Bible? These are pretty
basic things I’m speaking of
an ought to be part of every
Christian’s primary equip
ment.
Timidity, fear and power
lessness in one’s Christian
witness and testimony is of
ten because we don’t know
the Bible. With less than half
of most congregations in

larly each week in Sunday
school, it is no wonder that
Christianity is steadily los
