Supporting
Country Day
To The Editor:
May I attempt to clear up
what appears to be a miscon
ception in the community
regarding the planned Coun
try Day to be held on the
grounds of the Forsyth
County high and middle
schools.
This barbecue and get-to
gether on June 27 starting at
4 p.m. is being put on by the
American Agriculture Asso
ciation members of this and
surrounding counties. This
fine group of farmers have
worke’ long and hard to
make this festival a success
and they deserve our full
support.
The Republican Party of
Forsyth County was selected
tp help with the planning and
promotion of this effort of
our farmers. There will be
several fine speakers,
namely Tommy Kersey,
president of the Georgia
chapter of the American Ag
riculture Association, the
Honorable Alvin Jenkins,
who is the national spokes
man for the American farm
ers, and our United States
senator, the Honorable Mack
Mattingly.
All citizens of this county

TO The Editor:
The farmers are excited
that our newly-elected U.S.
Senator, Mack Mattingly,
will visit Forsyth County for
their annual barbeque on
Saturday, June 27 beginning
at 4 p.m. This is Farmer’s
Day! Here is an opportunity
for us to show our support
and thanksgiving to the men
and women who are the
grass roots of America.
The farmers have planned
a great day of activities: old

to support our farmers in
their attempt to bring to this

and entertainment also, to

All people interested in the
future of our country should
also avail themselves of the
chance to make their views
known to their United States
senator.
As some groups have at
tempted to imply, this is not
a political fund raiser. The
monies received as dona
tions for the tickets will be
used to defray the expenses
incurred in securing these
fine speakers, the food, en
tertainment, security, use of
the school facilities. Many
local merchants and farm
supply companies have been
most generous in their dona
tions of merchandise to be
used as free prizes and items
to be used in the old fash
ioned auction.
Let’s all join hands in this
bipartisan Country Day and
give our farmers of this
county, state and country the
thanks they so richly de
serve.

Harmony Grove Baptist Church sponsored a Vacation Bible
School (VBS) last week as did many area churches. The
school at Harmony Grove was for youth aged 12 to 14. One
thing the group studied, according to instructor Geraldine
Richards, was “sharing love with other people." To conclude
their week of study and practice what they had learned, the
class of 25 traveled to the Forsyth County Day Care Center
Friday to take handcrafted stuffed animals, balls and books
to the children. Besides taking gifts, the Bible school students
also took some time to make friends with the children and
play some games. (News staff photos by Lane Gardner

Confidence In Youth
To The Editor:
The parents of a 15-year
old boy asked me to write to
their son who is in a training
center. We will call him Da
vid for this letter.
David has been in trouble
of some kind since he was
about 10 years old. Some of
the things he has done are
not what you would believe a
boy of nine or 10 would do.
One time, he stole an auto
mobile and was caught
speeding on the highway at
80 miles per hour.
His leadership ability is
outstanding. Other boys
younger than he is usually
are implicated, somehow he
wants his associates to be
younger than he is.
It has just been one thing
after another for David, he
has been in and out of train
ing schools for most of his
time since he was 11 to 12
years old. He will be 16 in
August and this term of cor
rective training and study
will end. What to do with him
when he comes home to his
parents this time has posed a
real worry to them.
I am not a coun elor but
told them I would try to
express to David, whom I
have met on two occasions,
some of the more important
things he can do because he
is very intelligent, tests show
that. Just what to say how
far to push what sugges
tions to set forth is what
makes something of this
kind difficult. Well, this is
what I am sending him.
“David: Your folks told
me you would be 16 years old
in August. At that time you
will be a free person and
have an opportunity to do a
lot of things for yourself and
your family. You have made
good grades in school so we
know you have it in you to
learn. For a boy with your
ability and your age look
forward to something you
like to do. You have worked
on automobiles or you have
been around them a lot of
your time. Maybe you would
like to work on motors.
There is good money to be
made repairing auto
